The UCC's general synod passed a resolution affirming "equal rights for couples regardless of gender". The decision is not binding and will not require pastors to marry same-sex couples, though some already do. Several other Churches have endorsed gay civil partnerships but have not given them the status of marriage. The Episcopal Church (the US branch of the Anglican Communion) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church permit same-sex unions, while the Presbyterian Church is seeking to resolve severe disagreements over the issue. US conservatives are seeking to amend the country's constitution to ban same-sex marriage, which is currently legal only in the state of Massachusetts. Vermont allows same-sex civil unions, giving gay couples the same benefits as married couples on matters such as life insurance, health care and child custody.

Draft Constitution - Part II
Warning: Loooong post. The final version (Version 3.0) of the Iraqi draft constitution was finally submitted to the UN about ten days ago. It was published in English in the New York Times on the 15th of September. I blogged about some of the articles in the first two chapters last week, so I’ll jump right to Chapter Three: The Federal Authorities. The first notable difference between the final version of the constitution published in the New York Times and the Arabic version published in Al-Sabah is in article (47) under chapter three which sets down the general conditions for the ‘Council of Representatives’. In the Arabic version, there 6 conditions, while in the English one there are only five. The condition that isn’t in the English version is the one mentioning that women should make up 25% of the members of the Council of Representatives.

111. A Short History Of Creeds And Confessions
A general history covering the ancient creeds of Christendom, confessions of the Lutheran Church and the Reformed churches.
http://www.bible-researcher.com/confessions.html
Bible Research Interpretation > History of Confessions The short history of creeds and confessions below is reproduced from chapter I of the Introduction to A. A. Hodge's The Confession of Faith (1869), a commentary on the Westminster Confession of Faith.
A Short History of Creeds and Confessions
A. A. Hodge
It is asserted in the first chapter of this Confession [The Westminster Confession of Faith], and vindicated in this exposition that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, having been given by inspiration of God, are for man in his present state the only and the all-sufficient rule of faith and practice. All that man is to believe concerning God, and the entire duty which God requires of man, are revealed therein, and are to be believed and obeyed because contained therein, because it is the word of God. This divine word, therefore, is the only standard of doctrine which has intrinsic authority binding the conscience of men. And all other standards are of value or authority only in proportion as they teach what the Scriptures teach. Creeds and Confessions, therefore, have been found necessary in all ages and branches of the Church, and, when not abused, have been useful for the following purposes: (1.) To mark, disseminate and preserve the attainments made in the knowledge of Christian truth by any branch of the Church in any crisis of its development. (2.) To discriminate the truth from the glosses of false teachers, and to present it in its integrity and due proportions. (3.) To act as the basis of ecclesiastical fellowship among those so nearly agreed as to be able to labor together in harmony. (4.) To be used as instruments in the great work of popular instruction.

  • Our Business In A Nutshell We're a group of churches (currently about 875 of them) who cooperate to help people in the U.S. and other countries hear and understand the good news of Jesus Christ as it is explained in the Bible. The good news is this : God has made a way for the pain and self-centeredness of people to be removed forever. That way is through the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Any man, woman, young person or child who begins to understand that God loves them, even though they deliberately choose to think and do wrong things, may turn to Jesus and find forgiveness and the help to change. God is able to forgive anyone who comes to Him because, in His death, Jesus personally suffered every person's punishment for wrongdoing. That's why He is called the Savior of the world. His resurrection, on the other hand, is proof that God is not only able to forgive but to remake a person's life.

Hello. My name is Brian Wilkins, and I'm the pastor of First Baptist Church. Welcome to our web page.
We at First Baptist desire to know God
and make Him known. We are people just like you! People who need God. People who need people to care, to help, to laugh, to cry, to encourage.
We read in the book of Ecclesiastes that God has set eternity in all our hearts. Indeed, we have this deep-seated sense of eternity, longing for some sense of eternal purpose and meaning to our lives. We know in our hearts that there must be more to life than all those pursuits which in the end come up empty. We need God. Only a relationship with Him can provide that meaning and satisfy our longing.
So, we desire to know God and make Him known to others. For in knowing Him, we find satisfaction and security. Yes, this is true for the here and now; but more importantly it is true for all eternity

Letter Letter to President Bush on Iraq ~September 12, 2002~ September 12, 2002 The Honorable George W. Bush
President of the United States of America
The White House
Washington, D.C. Dear Mr. President: We, like all Americans, kneel in prayer and remembrance for the tragedy and violence that obliterated the lives of so many people one year ago. As American religious leaders, we have sought during this year to listen, to learn, and to grow in our faith and compassion both for persons in our congregations and also for those many outside of our churches. We applaud your leadership in bringing peoples of disparate faiths together to worship, to mourn, and to move on boldly with our lives – in a more caring fashion and with appreciation for the precious gifts of God given to all humankind. Today, however, we write out of concern that those same precious gifts may be damaged by actions being contemplated by our nation. We, leaders of American churches and church-related organizations, are alarmed by recent statements by yourself and others in the Administration about pre-emptive military action against Iraq for the expressed purpose of toppling the regime of Saddam Hussein. Understanding that Mr. Hussein poses a threat to his neighbors and to his own people, we nevertheless believe it is wrong, as well as detrimental to U.S. interests, to take such action.

The Swiss Reformation was both a spiritual and a political movement. Since church and society were seen as an integral whole, the reform of the church was a matter to be decided upon by municipal councils. The leaders of the Reformation depended on the agreement and support of the political authorities. The reforms were carried out by magisterial order and enforced with harsh measures against dissidents. The close connection of church and state has remained typical of the Swiss Ref churches, though it was conceived of differently in the various cantons. Throughout his life Calvin sought to limit the power of the magistrate in church affairs.
Just as the political system retained the form of a loose federation of states, the Ref churches never formed a united church. Although they maintained regular and manifold contacts, they remained autonomous regional churches.
The Swiss Ref churches owe much to Pietism and the Revival Movement. Most of the church-related social-service and missionary organizations go back to the initiative of Revival groups. Although structurally independent, these organizations have spiritual ties to the churches. Thanks to Christian Friedrich Spittler (1782-1867), the founder of the Basel Christian Society, Basel became a center of such organizations. The Basel Mission (founded in 1815) acquired international significance.
