Study Abroad with the SUNY System : State University of New York currently offers 291 overseas study programs in over 51 different countries: in North and South America, Africa, Asia, Western and Eastern Europe, Australia and New Zealand. These programs range from 2-3 week intensive courses to an entire semester or academic year abroad. Courses are available in over 100 subjects, ranging alphabetically from aboriginal studies and aerospace engineering to western philosophy and women's studies. While many programs focus on language learning and are conducted in the language of the host country, many others are conducted wholly or partly in English.
Curriculum Highlights: State University overseas study programs are, with some exceptions, open to all SUNY and non-SUNY students, with eligibility ranging from first year to graduate level. For many undergraduates, the best time to study abroad has traditionally been during the junior year; however, well-prepared sophomores, and, in a few cases, freshmen are eligible for some pro grams. For everyone, careful preparation and consultation with the campus Director of International Education are essential for determining where and when to go.

Interconnection costs
While users in the North continue to reap the benefits of the communication development, users in the South are actually falling further behind. In particular, the privatisation of telecom operations in developed countries, combined with the adoption of new technologies, has greatly reduced net financial flows to developing nations. A paper produced by APC (Association for Progressive Communications) proposes some strategies in order to minimize these North-South inequities.

World Summit on the Information Society: Tunis 2005
Last battle before the Summit
The third and last meeting of the Preparatory committee for the WSIS (PrepCom-3, 19 to 30 September 2005 - Geneve) has started. The upcoming two weeks will see major struggles around the hot topics Internet Governance and summit follow-up. This PrepCom will be decisive. If it fails, the whole summit might be seen as a four year long waste of time and money. The interesting question is also how to relate the WSIS to the general UN reform discussion that came to a preliminary conclusion at the MDG summit in New York.
