The Geography of
Cyberspace Directory
Does Cyberspace have a geography? What do we know about the nature, shape, size, distribution and geography of the Internet, the World-Wide Web and Cyberspace? I believe that Cyberspace has many geographies. This resource list is the result of my research into the geographies of Cyberspace. It is a somewhat eclectic list of information resources that help us measure and map these new virtual geographies of the Internet, the Web and Cyberspace. If you are looking for maps of the Internet, the Web and other Cyberspaces please check out Atlas of Cyberspaces If you would like to be kept informed of updates to the Geography of Cyberspace Directory please register to receive the free Cyber-Geography Research Bulletin . Any comments you may have are most welcome. If you would like to add a link please feel free to contact me at m.dodge@NOSPAMMYucl.ac.uk (please remove the NOSPAMMY bit first).

Welcome to the Atlas of Cyberspaces
This is an atlas of maps and graphic representations of the geographies of the new electronic territories of the Internet, the World-Wide Web and other emerging Cyberspaces. These maps of Cyberspaces - cybermaps - help us visualise and comprehend the new digital landscapes beyond our computer screen, in the wires of the global communications networks and vast online information resources. The cybermaps, like maps of the real-world, help us navigate the new information landscapes, as well being objects of aesthetic interest. They have been created by 'cyber-explorers' of many different disciplines, and from all corners of the world. Some of the maps you will see in the Atlas of Cyberspaces will appear familiar, using the cartographic conventions of real-world maps, however, many of the maps are much more abstract representations of electronic spaces, using new metrics and grids. The atlas comprises separate pages, covering different types of cybermaps.

Ofsted changes from September 2005
As you know there will be big changes to Ofsted inspections from September. School inspections will be shorter, with much less notice, and school's self evaluation will be central to the whole process. Subject and survey inspections will focus on individual subjects and curriculum areas from Foundation Stage to post 16, but they will be far fewer (a secondary school might have an inspection in one subject every three years, primaries less often). The new process will have implications on your work; these will become more apparent as the process evolves. Ofsted have produced two very useful information leaflets, aimed at parents, which provide a very clear overview of the two types of inspection. Please download the School inspections information leaflet here and the Subject and survey inspection leaflet here.
