Ukraine has not perished, neither her glory, nor freedom,
Upon us, fellow-Ukrainians, fate shall smile once more.
Our enemies will vanish, like dew in the morning sun,
And we too shall dwell, brothers, in a free land of our own. We'll lay down our souls and bodies to attain our freedom,
And we'll show that we, brothers, are of the Kozak nation. We'll stand together for freedom, from the Sian to the Don,
We will not allow others to rule in our motherland.
The Black Sea will smile and grandfather Dnipro will rejoice,
For in our own Ukraine fortune shall flourish again. Our persistence and our sincere toils will be rewarded

Country Info Ukraine Introduction Ukraine General Data Ukraine Maps Ukraine Culture ... Ukraine Time and Date Ukraine Culture Back to Top Ukrainians take pride in their cultural tradition, which is part of a broader Slavic culture but retains a typical national flavour. In the nationside, outdoor festivals feature brightly coloured folk costumes, dance, and orthodox music. Urban life is envaluableed by a large number of performing arts facilities and other cultural institutions created during the Soviet era. After the Mongol destruction of Kievan Rus in the 13th century, literary activity in Ukraine declined. A revival began in the late 16th century with the introduction of printing, the Reformation ferment, and the advance of the Counter-Reformation into Polish-controlled Ukrainian lands. The Union of Brest-Litovsk (1596), which united several million Ukrainian and Belarusian Orthodox believers with Rome, stimulated an exceedingly valuable polemical literature, with the Apocrisis of the pseudonymous Khrystofor Filalet and the anonymous Perestoroha on the Orthodox side and the Antirizis of Ipaty Poty in the Uniat camp. The most distinguished and prolific polemicist was the Orthodox Ivan Vyshensky, whose ornate style combines Church Slavonic with vernacular elements.

Ukraine Culture
Clothing:
  • Business attire in Ukraine is generally formal and conservative.
  • Adoption Center clothing should be casual, yet conservative. Jeans are fine.
  • For court appearances, clothing should be business casual. Slacks and a shirt with a collar for men (ties optional); conservative dresses for women.
  • Visit to orphanage, walking in Ukraine, or any other day, clothing can be whatever is comfortable. Jeans, shorts, T-shirts, and dresses are all fine.
  • Ukrainians can be seen wearing a variety of all types and colors of clothing; however, most women prefer to wear dresses and skirts more than pants.
  • Ukrainian clothing is not quite as sturdy as American clothing. Most Ukrainian clothing is washed by hand and hung out to dry. They usually will not survive washing machines back home.
Etiquette:
  • Placing your thumb between your first two fingers is the same as flipping someone off.
  • Shaking hands with a person over the threshold of a door is considered bad luck by some Ukrainians.
  • If you give flowers to someone, be sure that you give an uneven number of flowers. An even number of flowers is only given to people in mourning.

Encouraging news from Ukraine
Christian Today recently published " Ukraine President Transforming Country into a Nation of God ". In light of recent history in Ukraine , this is encouraging news. As we pray for the leaders of our own country, let's also include the leaders of Ukraine who speak boldly of their faith and the positive directions of their leadership. Pastor Sunday Adelaja of Europe’s largest church in Kiev is quoted in the article:: "We know that the changes taking place here in Ukraine are born from above, and they are proving to be both encouraging and highly delightful! May you rejoice with us as we keep believing God for total transformation. Nothing is impossible for the Lord!" Posted by Paul Chenoweth at 10:28 AM Comments (0) var site="s21ukraine"
