Vice president: None, as Tyler succeeded Harrison after his death
Tyler possessed a dignified charm and grace. His manner was typical of the well-bred southerner of the early 19th century. He mixed well with people of his class, but when around working class people, he became a different person ill at ease, aloof and unresponsive. H I S L I F E Born: March 29, 1790, in the family plantation in Charles City County, Va. Religion: Episcopalian. In practice, he could more properly be called a Deist. He believed in a divine creator, a prime mover, who set the universe on its present course. First ladies: Letitia Christian Tyler (1790-1842); she became the first president's wife to die in the White House; Tyler was remarried in 1844 to Julia Gardiner Tyler (1820-1889). Children: 14 children lived to maturity, more than any other president. By his first wife, Tyler had four daughters and three sons who lived to maturity. Death: Jan. 18, 1862, at the Exchange Hotel, Richmond, Va. His condition was diagnosed as biliousness and bronchitis. His wife had a nightmare two days earlier, when he was alive and well, in which her husband fell seriously ill. H I S C A R E E R Party: Whig.

John Tyler
John Tyler This is a good biography of President John Tyler. It is from USA Presidents
From the site:
John Tyler ( March 29 , 1790 - January 18 , 1862 ) of Virginia was the tenth ( 1841 ) Vice President of the United States , and the tenth ( 1841 - 1845 ) President of the United States . He was the second President born after the signing of the Declaration of Independence , and the first to assume the office of President following the death of his predecessor.
He studied law with his father, John Tyler (1747-1813), who became Governor of Virginia (1808-1811), and followed his father as governor (1825-1827) after a stint in the House of Representatives. During his time as U.S. Senator, Tyler, who had begun as a strict state-rights Democrat, grew increasingly alienated from the Jacksonian Democrats, especially by Jackson's aggressive handling of the South Carolina nullification issue.

symmetric paralysis While a 30 year old Congressman in Washington, Tyler developed an illness that remains difficult to diagnose. Based on Tyler's clear description of the illness it would today be described as a symmetric, generalized, subacute paralysis. His recovery was so slow and prolonged that he resigned from Congress for two years [ Possible diagnoses include Guillain-Barre syndrome, myasthenia gravis, tick paralysis, diphtheritic paralysis, and botulism [
dysentery Tyler retired to his Virginia estate after leaving the White House. He suffered repeated attacks of dysentery in the summer [ ], the causes of which are unknown [ Tyler had little faith in doctors. He regularly "took the waters" at various spas in Virginia. He became a believer in sulfur hydrotherapy. He also took "massive" doses of calomel regularly, which may have contributed to his gastrointestinal problems. [

Although he had supported the election of John Quincy Adams , Tyler was outraged at President Adams's nationalist program, and he led Senate opposition to proposals for internal improvements, a national army, and national laws to regulate commerce and agriculture. In 1828, Tyler switched his support to Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Jackson , since Jackson shared his opposition to a national bank. Once in office, Jackson waged war on the bank, and Tyler was in the forefront of the fight against it in the Senate. In 1832, when the bank became the central campaign issue, Tyler easily won reelection to the Senate from the pro-Jackson Virginia Assembly.

United Church of Christ Keep in mind that in the table above, the % of the U.S. population for religious groups are current figures. Religious groups have had much different proportions at various time in U.S. history. One of the most over-represented religious groups among U.S. presidents is Unitarianism. Despite merging with Universalism in the 1960s, the combined proportion of Unitarian Universalists in the U.S. population is just 0.2% of the population (one in every 500 Americans). Yet there have been 4 Unitarian presidents. Another over-represented religious group among U.S. presidents is Dutch Reformed, by virtue of having two U.S. presidents, yet having only a small number of people left in the country who identify themselves as Reformed. The contemporary heir to the Dutch Reformed churches is the "Reformed Church in America," which has about 300,000 members in the U.S. and Canada. (Alternatively, one might count only a single president as Dutch Reformed, if Theodore Roosevelt is counted as an Episcopalian sources differ on this subject . Even just one Dutch Reformed president would constitute statistical over-representation.) After that, Disciples of Christ, Episcopalians, and Quakers have also had representation in the White House far outstripping their proportion of the U.S. population.

JOHN TYLER 10th President (1841-1845) The institutions under which we live, my countrymen, secure each person in the perfect enjoyment of all his rights.
    - Inaugural address, 1841 Tippecanoe and Tyler, too !! That seems to be the beginning and the end of the American public's awareness of President John Tyler. Which is a shame, because this tall Virginia gentleman has much to teach us about how to serve as President with integrity and principles. And couldn't we use a little more of that these days ? Born in Charles City County, Virginia in 1790, John Tyler served as Congressman, Senator and Governor of Virginia before being chosen as William Henry Harrison's Vice Presidential running mate in 1840. General Harrison had won the Battle of Tippecanoe against Tecumseh's impressive Native American forces, and the "Tippecanoe" slogan became the centerpiece of the Whigs' 1840 campaign. Tyler had actually been a member of the Democrat party until 1833, when he had to leave the party because he dared to oppose Andrew Jackson's programs. For whatever reason, the Whigs chose the independent Tyler to run with "Ol' Tippecanoe", never dreaming of what would follow. After winning the election, President Harrison gave a long-winded inaugural speech (the longest ever) in a cold March rain, caught pneumonia and died exactly one month later, after having served the shortest time of any President before or since. The Whigs were now stuck with Tyler, the first President ever to come to office by constitutional succession, who had not exhibited any deep allegiance to Whig principles. Almost immediately, things began to unravel.
