Women and Civil Rights
The principle of equality of men and women with respect to citizenship and before the courts is expressly stipulated in Tunisian legal texts.
As early as 1956, the Code of Personal Status established a new organization of the family based on equality of rights, through a series of provisions that included:
  • the abolition of polygamy;
  • the establishment of judicial divorce proceedings, granting both spouses the right to request divorce;
  • setting the minimum age for marriage at 17 for girls, and providing that they must consent to the marriage;
  • in the case of death of the child's father, granting the mother the right of custody of their minor children.
The new amendments announced by the President of the Republic on August 13, 1992 have, meanwhile, strengthened the place of women still further, confirming the principle according to which their rights are inseparable from those of men, eliminating legal provisions that could be interpreted as discriminatory and sexist. These amendments, adopted by the Chamber of Deputies in July 1993, stipulate in particular:
  • that the two spouses "must treat each other with kindness and consideration, and assist each other in the management of the household and the affairs of their children." This provision replaces the former clause providing that "the woman must obey her husband";

Tunisia blast probe: Suspect freed
Elissia, an eight-year-old German girl, was among those injured in the blast BERLIN, Germany (CNN) German authorities say they have released a person detained in connection with the explosion last week of a truck at a synagogue in Tunisia that killed at least 15 people, including 10 German tourists. The German federal prosecutor's office said it arrested the person on Monday night and said it had 24 hours from the time of the arrest to bring the suspect up on charges or release the person. But the prosecutor's office said on Tuesday that after questioning the person, it determined there was nothing to link to the crime. Spokeswoman Frauke Scheuten said the arrest was made after a tip to authorities about a telephone call from the North African nation to Germany before the blast, at the Ghriba synagogue, a historic and holy Jewish site on the Tunisian island of Djerba. MORE STORIES Tunisia synagogue toll rises She said the call indicated the man may have been acting as a contact.

Jubilant Japan go through, Tunisia out
Morishima celebrates Japan's opening goal OSAKA, Japan Nationwide celebrations erupted in Japan after the World Cup co-hosts clinched a place in the second round of the tournament for the first time with a 2-0 win over Tunisia in their final group game. Hiroaki Morishima and Hidetoshi Nakata delighted the army of blue-shirted fans in Osaka's Nagai stadium with goals in the second half. Substitute Morishima used his first touch to perfection, pouncing on a loose ball in the 48th minute and fired truly past goalkeeper Ali Boumnijel from 10 meters out.

196. Ruspina USA - Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Offers premium, extra virgin olive oil from tunisia by the container to individuals, restaurants, grocery stores and specialty shops. Direct from producer to consumer, wholesale prices.
http://www.ruspinausa.com/
Welcome to Ruspina USA
Ruspina was a city founded by the Roman Empire in Central Eastern Tunisia on the Mediterranean. The Romans discovered that the oil produced from local olives was outstanding. Ruspina, located only sixty miles south of Sicily, soon became one of the major centers of olive oil production for the Roman Empire. Ruspina olive oil was shipped to all corners of the known world. Today, there are more than six million trees in the Ruspina area producing significant quantities of olive oil. As a matter of fact, Tunisia is the fourth largest producer of olive oil in the world and the first exporter of extra virgin olive oil in the world. Olive oil has become a global business. Much of the olive oil currently exported to the United States from Italy is repacked Tunisian olive oil. Large Italian companies purchase olive oil in bulk from many different countries, blend it, package it and export it. As such, the point of origin is often misleading, and the quality is rarely uniform.
