Time travel
Time travel is a concept that has long fascinated humanity whether it is Merlin experiencing time backwards, or Christ , descended from the Kingdom of God , which exists out-of- time -and- space , to incarnate a human body, or Mohammed's alleged trip to Jerusalem and ascent to heaven , returning before a glass knocked over had spilt its contents. Often nowadays it is a plot device used in science fiction to set a character in a particular time not his/her own, and explore the possible ramifications of the character's interaction with the people and technology of that time - a spin on the "country bumpkin comes to the big city" plot (or vice versa). It evolved to explore ideas of change, and reactions to it, and also to explore the ideas of a parallel universes or alternate history where some little event took place or didn't take place, but causes large changes in the future. Famous fictional time machines include the TARDIS and H. G. Wells

You don’t need to fly across the ocean to experience time travel. I just cameback from India which is 11.5 hours ahead of home (Denver, CO).

Time Traveling

I usually find it dead simple to calculate time differences and arrivals when flying cross-country here in the US, or even trans-Atlantic flights to Europe. But thinking about the flight to Australia is equally throwing me for a loop and wildly fascinating to me at the same time. I mentioned in my last post In a Sunburned Country Sunburned Country covers his travels in Australia, a land he absolutely loves. Reading through the first chapters is getting me more and more excited about the trip. before you left Sydney, which in its way, of course, is an even neater trick. Back to the Future Posted on Thursday, August 26, 2004. A response from Lewis H. Lapham. Originally from Harper's Magazine, October 2004. Sources I was most impressed to read of Lewis Lapham's ability to travel in time in "Tentacles of Rage" [Essay, September]. As far as I can tell, on the day I received my copy of Harper's Magazine , the Republican convention had yet to take place, and living in New York, I think I would have noticed. Admittedly, the pablum will be predictable (barring some unforeseen event), but it seems awfully sloppy of Lapham to discuss feelings he had while watching something he has yet to watch, simply in order to put some additional feathers on one of his rhetorical barbs. What is most appalling is that he chose an actual piece of journalism, rather than his accustomed punditry, for this rather silly fillip. This doesn't exactly give me faith in his understanding of what it is reporters actually do. On the other hand, if he has in fact traveled in time, I would appreciate it if he could let all of us subscribers know the outcome of the forthcoming election.
