This article originally appeared in the February 2002 edition of Helix Imagine seeing the dinosaurs first-hand, visiting your great, great, great grandchildren in the 22nd Century, or travelling to the other side of the Milky Way in an instant. Time travel and wormholes used to belong to the realm of make-believe. But, with a little inspiration from some creative writers and thinkers, Elizabeth Warnes says physicists have begun to show us that science fact can be just as strange as science fiction. Travelling into the future...
ONLINE FORUM

Dr Charley Lineweaver, Professor Ray Norris, Dr Joss Hawthorne and Tamara Davis online to discuss the possibilities and paradoxes of time travel and wormholes You can read what they had to say here Einstein's special theory of relativity shows that time travel into the future is possible. The theory demonstrates that the way we perceive time is relative to our motion. Objects travelling at speeds close to the speed of light (about 300 000 kilometres per second) age more slowly than stationary objects. In 1975, Professor Carrol Alley tested Einstein's theory using two synchronised atomic clocks. Carol loaded one clock onto a plane, which was flown for several hours, while the other clock remained on the ground. At the end of its flight, the clock on the plane was slightly behind the one on the ground. Time had actually slowed down for the clock on the plane. It had travelled forward in time.

Traveling back in time
Bob's Red Mill joins PBS 'experiential-history' series: Frontier House
offering its 'back to the basics' staples from Oregon Frontier House . A coproduction of Thirteen/WNET New York and Wall to Wall Television in association with Channel Four (U.K.), Frontier House is scheduled to premier May 1, 2002 on Public Broadcasting Systems (PBS) - check local listings. In Frontier House , three families travel back in time to 1880s Montana to live like early homesteaders. Bob's Red Mill, nationally known for its stone ground, whole-grain products, is providing dry goods for the show's participants who will spend six months building homes, herding livestock, raising crops, washing clothes, baking bread and churning butter, using only the tools and techniques available more than a century ago. Bob's Red Mill has donated flour, cornmeal, Scottish Oatmeal, beans, nuts, spices, dried fruit, and other baking supplies to the series. The company, which provided half of the food consumed during filming, also created authentic 49-pound cloth flour bags for the Frontier House local store where families purchase supplies.

Travel Back in Time: Meet Toulouse-Lautrec
Read this simulated magazine The Parisian Cafe Society Review September, 1891 Music Hall Show at the Moulin Rouge My friend and I went to a music hall show at the Moulin Rouge last night. We had a really great evening. We went into a huge smoky place and sat down at a table. We asked for two glasses of red wine which is the traditional and fashionable drink in this place. The people were so noisy that we couldn't hear each other speaking. Everybody was chattering and laughing. The atmosphere was really cheerful! When the performance started, a loud and exciting music stopped everybody from speaking. Ten dancers jumped on the stage shouting and laughing. It was great fun. A visit to this music hall is a must!

Time Traveling Plans Put On Hold
Chris Ambler, a veteran of the DNS wars, throws cold water on my plans to attend s upcoming time travel convention at a later date to be announced. It seems that I will also need to perfect my FTL transport in order to get back here in a reasonable time from wherever the Earth has gone, cf. On the other hand, I was always under the impression that the light-speed barrier is tied to our inability to travel in time, as doing so could mean that some information had traveled faster than light. Even so, the navigation issue looks substantial.

Comments In one sense, we do travel in time all the time. It's just that we travel at a fairly constant rate of 1 sec/sec and we can't alter it too much. And since 1 sec == 10^-6 m, we're always travelling through time at the rate of 10^-6 m/sec. There is no center of the Universe or more correctly every place appears to be the center of expansion. So the answer is trivially 0. Hope this helps.

I've got nothing Bill and Ted's excellent time-traveling adventure
By Quintin Marcelino Published: Thursday, April 15, 2004 As I was perusing the DVD aisles of Best Buy after, like a good little lemming, picking up my bare-bones DVD edition of "Kill Bill: Volume 1" on Tuesday, I was drawn to the "Comedy" section. Not quite sure why, I stumbled around the As and Bs until I saw it: the shining beacon of hope and understanding. Its case, with the shrink-wrap glimmering, called to me in ways I still cannot explain. It was the one true thing that could save me. George Carlin, Alex Winter and, of course, Keanu Reeves looked as if they were sages, profits sent from another time, to guide me. I was staring at a $10 copy of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
I had no clue why that ran through my head though. I just wanted to get home and watch Uma Thurman cut people up real good. When I woke up from my three-and-a-half hours of sleep this morning, I had no intention of pondering about time, space and the meaning of life. But as I settled down with a can of Cherry Coke to watch the Bride rip-roar through a bunch of insane, black-masked Yakuza henchmen, I could only hear the word "EXCELLENT",followed by a guitar solo, echoing through my brain. But still, I couldn't quite put my finger on why I was suddenly obsessed with air guitar solos and the vernacular of the late 1980s.

community journals shop Take a Trip Back in Time to Old Sturbridge Village By Diana Erbio Why not take a trip back in time? The 1830s in New England can be found in Sturbridge, Mass., in the form of Old Sturbridge Village. Old Sturbridge Village is an outdoor living history museum that first opened its doors in 1946. The Wells brothers had collected more antiques than they could house in one museum, so they bought 150 acres of farmland. They decided a working museum village would be the best way to display and share their extensive collection of furniture, tools and utensils from early rural New England. Many structures were moved to the site from various parts of New England, while others were authentically re-created specifically for Old Sturbridge Village. Today there are 40 restored buildings filled with thousands of pieces from the past. Historically costumed staff members demonstrate and discuss life, work and celebrations of early-19th-century Americans. The Village Common, with its meeting house, tavern and shops, is surrounded by farmhouses and mills. Grab a map and travel the country roads.

community journals shop Emandal's Harvest Festival Take a Trip Back In Time By Peggy Vincent Steaming coffee, hot chocolate and huge trays of sticky cinnamon buns greet the lucky visitors who come to Willitis, Calif., for the annual Harvest Festival. We've enjoyed Emandal's Family Camp for the past 23 summers, but 1999 was the first time we returned for the annual November harvest celebration. An easy three-hour drive north of San Francisco and 14 miles east of the small town of Willits, Emandal is a 1000-acre farm on the Eel River, owned and operated by Clive and Tamara Adams, who created the Harvest Festival about five years ago. Rolling hills, woods of oak and pine, hiking trails, a one-room schoolhouse, 2 acres of organic gardens, a vineyard and the wonderful river with several swimming holes make up the foundation of time spent at Emandal. Great food, interesting people and the leisure time to enjoy them keep people coming back year after year. Hands-on Fun
After we arrived, the smell of coffee pulled us across the cattle guard. Licking buttery syrup from our fingers as the last bite of cinnamon bun disappeared, we cupped our hands around a coffee mug to ward off the November chill and made our way to the cavernous barn where wreath making was already underway. Hundreds of tiny Christmas lights glittered from the rafters, but most of the illumination for the busy scene came through high windows and the open back door leading to the cow yard.

To show the development of Salem, Windham and Pelham throughout the years, and to also provide some fun facts for our readers to look at. Every week, the Salem Observer will look back through its archives and see what the big stories were 30, 25, 15, and five years ago.
Police alleged that Lospennato shipped fireworks from other states to his home via UPS, which led police to arrest him at his home. Included in the items found were two sticks of dynamite, 60 percent giant gelatin, three blasting caps with wire, and almost 4,000 one-inch firecrackers.
A Pelham teen died just weeks after his graduation ceremony from Pelham High School. William A. Merritt, a 17-year-old resident of Lucy Avenue, died at the Bon Secours Hospital (now the Holy Family Hospital) in Methuen, Mass., just two hours after he was admitted for a car crash.

Yet this is not meant to dismiss the value of Lear's work. Rather, it points to what someone might gain through an exploration of the gallery's current "Edward Lear and the Art of Travel" exhibition: an insight into the attitudes and artistic styles of British culture in the 19th Century. In this case, he documents the Suez area through his whimscial sketches of camels. Among the multitude of pen and ink sketches is the focal point of the exhibition; Lear's huge oil painting
