While NCGA has always kept close watch over production and stewardship issues, it was not until recently that work on such issues expanded dramatically. A department dedicated solely to production and stewardship issues was formed in 1994. But as far back as the 1960s, NCGA monitored crop quality, production pests and transportation options. Limited resources in the early years were devoted to membership and representation for the upstart organization. QUALITY NCGA's first organized involvement in production issues occurred in 1962, when a corn disease committee was appointed by President Walter Goeppinger to work with Iowa State University researchers. Early work led to a 1969 NCGA-sponsored Corn Quality and Standards Conference, held in Des Moines, Iowa, and a cooperative agreement between NCGA and Iowa State to work on the Corn Quality project. About the same time, NCGA became began supporting research on crop inputs and advocating studies on farm chemicals to determine impact and effectiveness.

Each student must subscribe to discussion lists and complete this homework assignment. Subscribe to at least two lists. Do this early in the semester to gain appreciation for information being posted by subscribers. It will help you to complete the assignment of posting a well-written issue on the list and obtaining subscriber responses. Send a "copy furnished" of your e-mail query to your instructor: The issue/query that you posted to a List sent via email, "copy furnished" on your instructor. It is very easy to subscribe to a Discussion List. Use the address furnished for the list and make the only an entry in the "Message Text" as prescribed, observing lower and upper case letters and with no punctuation. Fast facts about the history of San Diego by the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce

If you ask a San Diego resident just who founded San Diego, you will likely get one of two answers: Juan Cabrillo or Sebastian Vizcaino, depending on the resident's interpretation of history. Here is a quick timeline of the history of San Diego:
Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, a Portugese explorer sailing under the flag of Spain, leaves Navidad, Mexico and sails into San Diego Bay three months later. The ships sail farther north and then returns to Mexico.
Spain launches a second expedition lead by Sebastian Vizcaino, who names the area "San Diego." Another Spanish expedition, including Father Junipero Serra, comes to San Diego, and July 16, 1769 is now considered the formal birthday of San Diego. Spanish rule ends, and a Mexican flag flies over San Diego for about 25 years.

1 Interstate 68: "The National Freeway"
1.1 Project Length/Location
Interstate 68 is an east-west freeway that links the western Maryland panhandle to northeast West Virginia. It is known as "The National Freeway" because its Maryland portion generally follows the Old National Road of the early nineteenth century. I-68 extends from the I-70 junction in Hancock, Md. to the I-79 junction near Morgantown, W.V. It generally ties the Mid-Atlantic region (Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area via I-70) to the Midwest (through western Pennsylvania via I-79). I-68 does not enter a major metropolitan statistical area; the largest city between the endpoints is Cumberland, Md. This study concentrates on the 82-mile segment in Maryland. The map shows the location of I-68 in Maryland from Garrett county in the west through Allegany county to Washington county on the east. I-68 traverses two metropolitan areas in Maryland, Cumberland, MD-WV and Hagerstown-Martinsburg, MD-WV designated by the US Office of Management and Budget. Counties in metropolitan statistical areas (MetSAs) are lightly shaded on the map. Allegany County is in the Cumberland, MD-WV MetSA. The Hagerstown-Martinsburg, MD-WV MetSA includes Washington County. Garrett is a non-metropolitan county and is shaded in dark.

1 Interstate 81: The Roadway
1.1 Project Length/Location
Interstate 81 is a major north-south freeway in the eastern United States. I-81 generally links the Northeast with the non-Atlantic South; more than 800 miles from its northern terminus at the Canadian border in upstate New York to its southern endpoint near Dandridge, Tenn. (about 25 miles east of Knoxville). I-81 does not enter major metropolitan areas; it serves smaller cities such as Roanoke, Va.; Hagerstown, Md.; Harrisburg and Scranton, Penn.; and Binghamton and Syracuse, N.Y. It is the freight-service back road to the Northeastern megalopolis. This study focuses on Virginia's 325 mile-long segment of I-81. Interstate 81 enters Virginia near Bristol from the Kingsport-Johnson City area of northeastern Tennessee. It exits into West Virginia's eastern panhandle north of Winchester. The largest cities on or near the highway include Bristol, Roanoke, Harrisonburg, and Winchester. I-81 is numbered as a north-south highway but lies on a northeast-southwest orientation. Its entry point from Tennessee is more than 200 miles west of its exit point into West Virginia.

http://www.zanesville-ohio.com/History.htm
Welcome to Our Tradition In the 1790s, a settlement was established at the confluence of the Licking and Muskingum Rivers as Colonel Ebenezer Zane and his son-in-law John McIntire blazed Zane's Trace, the original pioneer trail into the old Northwest Territory. Zane, a Revolutionary War veteran, was commissioned by the U.S. Congress to blaze a pathway into the rolling hills and the dense forests of the Ohio Valley, and to establish ferry crossings at three major rivers including the Muskingum. McIntire and Zane's brother Jonathan took responsibility for operating the ferry at the Muskingum River and they were the county's first settlers. A town laid out by McIntire called Westbourne quickly grew out of the settlement and in 1801 it was renamed Zanesville in honor of Colonel Zane. Zanesville served as the temporary capitol of Ohio from 1810 to 1812. In 1814, the city's well-known Y-shaped bridge was initially constructed to cross the junction of the two rivers in the center of Zanesville - the Licking and Muskingum. Today, the fifth Y-Bridge still stands at the heart of the community. Transportation played a key role in the rich history and development of the community. Zane's Trace later became the National Road, the major east-west artery for trade and travel and one of the pioneer's main routes to the west throughout the 1800s. The Muskingum River with a canal, lock and dam system that is still used today transported steamboats and barges up from the Ohio. Zanesville's pivotal position has made the community a center for commerce, travel and trade throughout its history.

Kimball History
Caboose Park reminds citizens that Kimball traces its history back to 1867 when the Union Pacific Railroad construction reached the site of the present day town's location. The railroad established a station, calling it Antelope, because large herds of antelope roamed in the area, and the tiny settlement of Antelopeville sprang up beside it. For a number of years, the only activity in the vicinity consisted of railroad crews stopping for food and rest, and the huge Bay State Livestock Company, cattle operation. In 1877, the little town's first post office was established, and in 1881, the first school was started through the efforts of Mary Lynch, wife of a section foreman for the railroad. The Union Pacific began selling off its land in 1884, opening the way for settlement. By the end of 1885, the town had a hotel, two professional offices, a newspaper, several retail shops and a new name - Kimball. The new name came from an official of the Union Pacific Railroad, Thomas L. Kimball, later to become vice-president and general manager of the railroad.
