Society in the 18th Century I. The Inglorious Revolution-The Marriage of Militarism and Commerce A great turning point in English history was the revolution of 1640-1660. The English Revolution was a conflict among three social forces. The bourgeoisie, led by Oliver Cromwell and organized in the parliament, aroused by the English working class all warring against Charles I, the High Church, and the aristocracy. Once Cromwell vanquished them he turned on his allies, the people. During the course of the struggle with the King the movement had empowered and politically mobilized the masses to demand true democratic freedoms. The mass mobilization though threatened the new capitalist order that Cromwell and Parliament sought to impose. During the mobilization the army would elect its own officers, the first democratic political party in world history emerged, and the questioning of all types of authority was the fashion. It was in the this chaotic context that the poet John Milton composed Paradise Lost while being imprisoned and targeted by assassins. In many ways Milton epic was an allegory of what was happening to English economy and society. In the first two books of the poem Satan is preparing an assault on Heaven. Hundreds of thousands assembled in war council at Pandemonium to plan how to conquer heaven. Here Lucifer listened to the advice of his three major counsellors Moloch, Belial and Mammon. Milton was saying that After May of 1660 Satan was not trying to recover power in England: he had won it.

The primary purpose of the Salmon Resources and Sensitive Area Mapping (SR-SAM) project is to provide accurate resource protection mapping that enables roadway maintenance crews to perform their required activities (e.g., mowing, pesticide applications, etc.) with minimized disturbance to sensitive areas and their threatened and endangered resources.
Meeting this objective requires the development and maintenance of a comprehensive resource inventory over a very large geographical area. The design approach utilizes many technological features including:
  • Ortho-rectified, color infrared digital imagery with 2-foot pixel resolution, On-screen digitizing of obvious sensitive resource features, Road-side capture of sensitive resources using laser rangefinders linked to vehicle-mounted real-time Global Positioning System (GPS) units, and Sophisticated GIS modeling
  • Linear Referencing System (LRS) Restricted Activity Zones (RAZ) . These RAZ Maps

Bethany Missouri Bethany was officially incorporated as a city in 1860. The first Mayor of Bethany Missouri was T.H. Templeman. History The settlement of Harrison County began around 1838, although the land was not surveyed and opened for entry until 1842. The county is named after Albert C Harrison who was a Missouri politician during the 19th century. Many of the early pioneers in the county settled along Sugar Creek and in the Bethany area. Three commissioners deliberated for several days to determine a site for the county seat and finally came to the decision to place it in the southern part of the county. The original name for the community was Dallas. In June of 1845, John S. Allen was appointed commissioner to survey the town into lots and offer the same for sale. The plat which was completed on June 27, 1845 consisted of 19 total acres. The name Dallas apparently did not meet with the general approval of the residents of the community and the issue was brought before the county court. It was decided that the court and county officials present would select a new name by ballot. The names of Bethany and Carthage were proposed. The Votes showed a majority favored the name of Bethany and accordingly the name of Bethany was given to the town. It was officially incorporated as a city by an act of the General Assembly on January 6, 1860. The first mayor was T.H. Templeman.
