Tonga is in the centre of the South Pacific islands, but with a very different nature from its neighbours; a nature that intrigues and delights travelers. For a start, Tonga has a monarchy, with a much beloved king, and is the only country in the South Pacific never to have been colonised.
Within Tonga itself there is natural and historical diversity. Each of the four island groups has its own particular attraction, be it the fascinating culture, the fantastic volcanic mountains with their tropical rainforest, the picturesque waterways or archaeological remains. But all have tropical sea, sand and sunshine.

The country also has a growing reputation as a sailing and game fishing destination, with many sheltered waterways to explore and remote bays to anchor in for the night.

Gwembe Tonga 3 - The Geography The Gwembe Valley is formed by the Zambezi River as it cuts across southern Africa. The valley forms the boundary between Rhodesia and Zambia. In the late 1950's a dam was built on the lower Zambezi, just below the valley, forming Lake Kariba. Due to the permanent flooding of their traditional farmlands, the Valley Tonga were relocated. Although their traditional way of life was forever disrupted, the data collected by the anthropologists sent in to assess the impact of the relocation, as well as the causes of endemic famine in the area, forms the basis of this simulation.
