Return to Index The Environment Canada Policy Research Seminar Series Relating International Sustainable Development Goals to National Agendas Angela Cropper January 21, 2004 On January 21, 2004, the Environment Canada Policy Research Seminar Series featured Angela Cropper, who delivered a presentation entitled "Relating International Sustainable Development Goals to National Agendas”. Ms. Cropper drew upon her experience around various policy tables at the national level for Trinidad and Tobago, regional level for the Caribbean, and the global level. She used her address at Environment Canada to reflect on commonalities in sustainable development issues at these different scales and to provide several practical lessons for policy officials about the vital role of equity in achieving sustainability. The following is a summary of her presentation. We know much about sustainable development in theory, but have much to learn about applying these notions in a practical sense. Though the geographic scales vary widely, many of the core sustainability challenges are remarkably similar at the national, regional or global levels. One such challenge is identifying the appropriate role of equity in sustainable development. | |
