The 2005 Mainstage Season
June 1-12 Set in 1942, what many consider Neil Simon's best play explores a family relationship between an elderly woman, her retarded daughter, and her two grandsons as they are exposed to the dynamics of family and lessons of life. Called variously a "comic drama" and a "dramatic comedy," Lost In Yonkers brings laughter that "implodes straight into your heart." June 15 - July 3 A dinner party given by a couple celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary with their friends includes a mischievous and somewhat mysterious uninvited guest who occasionally comments on the action throughout the evening. Stephen Sondheim's acclaimed musical review incorporates three dozen songs from many of the prolific writer-composer's favorite shows. July 6-17 George Bernard Shaw's classic anti-war satire, in the guise of a romantic comedy, is set at the aftermath of an 1885 Serb-Bulgarian war. The Bulgarian hero, Sergius, strikes up a friendship with his defeated foe, a Swiss mercenary, who has taken refuge in the bedroom of Sergius's fiancée. Sergius, meanwhile, falls in love with her maid, and Shaw proceeds to subvert both romance and, in his own words "the confounded ideals of Truth, Duty, Self-sacrifice, Virtue, Reason, and so on." July 20-31

The Wise Ones was a subsequent winner of the North Carolina Arts Council Play-write Fellowship. With Tunnels, Craft reviewed hundreds of testimonials from addicts before beginning to write the vignettes that comprise the play. To serve that goal Dacons-Brock is presenting a collage of live theatre, music, dance, video and photography to illustrate the concept implied in the title Tunnels, addicts burrowing away from reality and digging themselves under.
