123. The History Of The Carolina Wurlitzer
Wurlitzer Opus 1495 2/8 Style F originally in the Carolina theatre, Charlotte, NC. general information about theatre organs.
http://www.theatreorgans.com/nc/metrolina/carolina/historyoforgan.html
The History of the Carolina Wurlitzer
Since the Carolina Theatre was built during the final days of silent film and vaudeville shows, an orchestra and an organ were used to accompany the film and the stage shows in these early days before talkies. The organ also led sing-a-longs. Most of today's young people have never participated in a sing-a-long. They were great rousing choruses of patriotic songs, sentimental favorites, or the popular tunes of the day. The organ (and the organist) needed to be versatile to handle all these requirements. Here's a description of our Wurlitzer (no pictures, unfortunately), which was Opus 1,495 . This means that it was the 1,495th organ built by Wurlitzer. It was just like all the others Wurlitzer made called Style F . (Here's more information on the different styles .) Our Carolina Theatre Wurlitzer was one of 94 Style Fs built, and it was installed and playing on opening night , Monday, March 7, 1927.
Definitions
First, you need to understand a few terms to make sense of the specification.
  • Console
This is the large wooden furniture that holds the devices the organist uses to play the organ.

More importantly, they've become a symbol of the very loyal and committed support of their audiences, people like you. In fact, the people who started the Cameras are very much like the film buffs who support the Cameras today, except that in the early 1970s there was no place in the South Bay to see quality independent or international films. "42 nd Street"
Music by Harry Warren
Lyrics by Al Dubin
Produced on Broadway by David Merrick
"Tony Award Winning Musical"
Auditions and Casting
Auditions and casting for the 50 member dancing / singing company will begin September 2005 . The production calls for a large number of dancers (Amateurs only). Anyone interested should contact the membership chairman at 905-834-6939. Or toll free - 1-877-299-4087 for further information. All society musical participants are amateur including the directors who are involved strictly for "LOVE OF MUSICAL THEATRE" The Story 42nd St. is a big bold musical set in 1933 that celebrates the stuff that dreams are made of. It begins as most shows in real life do, with auditions for a Broadway show. Peggy, a young hopeful arrives late for her audition, and gets rejected by the producer who detests latecomers. She ends up with a 2nd chance when the show's dancers entice her back on stage where the producer recognizes her fresh talent and offers her a place in the chorus. In the meantime his "star" Dorothy refuses to audition at all, after all, her "sugar daddy" is financing the show. There are several romantic, comical complications with Peggy getting fired, then re-hired when the leading lady breaks her ankle. It is the age old fantasy of the unknown talent arising from nowhere to capture the Cinderella spot on stage, as well as a love of her own.
