OFFICE OF PUBLIC RELATIONS CURRENT NEWS RELEASES NEWS ARCHIVE SPEAKERS' BUREAU ... HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY MAGAZINE Theatre program to expand offerings FOR RELEASE July 19, 2005
HUNTINGTON, IN—Beginning in the fall of 2005, the Huntington University Theatre Department will offer two new degrees in Theatre General Studies and Theatre Education. The Theatre department will also offer new courses to enhance the existing Theatre Performance and Design and Technology concentrations. The Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre General Studies is designed for students who may choose to study theatre in a less intense program or wish to team their theatre major with an additional major. It will include courses from the core theatre classes as well as elective classes. The Bachelor of Science degree in Theatre Education will prepare students for a career teaching theatre and also for related fields, such as drama ministry work and community theatre. The Theatre Education degree will draw from current performance, design and technology, and education classes. A new Theatre Arts Methods class will also be implemented. In addition to adding these two new degrees, the Theatre Department also plans to strengthen its existing Theatre Performance and Design and Technology concentrations by adding additional courses in areas such as voice and movement, stage makeup, design, directing, acting, and theatre history and literature. The additional offerings will further prepare students to meet entrance requirements for graduate school or make the transition into professional theatre.

General Information Front Of House Stage Stage Equipment Loading Area ... Visiting Production Information Royal Theatre General Information The Royal Theatre opened in 1913 as a privately built and operated roadhouse. It has seen many of this century's great performers on its stage, including Sarah Bernhardt, Carlos Montoya, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Luciano Pavarotti, in spite of having been used in part as a cinema from 1917 until 1981. The Royal Theatre was designated a site of national historic significance in 1987, and received a commemorative plaque from the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada in 1990. The original foyer has been augmented by lobby extensions completed in 1991, while the auditorium retains its original Rococo/Renaissance Revival style decor. Extensive technical upgrades, restoration work to the auditorium, and refurbishment of the dressing rooms took place in 2002. The Royal is home to the Victoria Symphony and Pacific Opera Victoria, as well as being Vancouver Island's premiere venue for touring attractions.

A FEW WORDS ABOUT OUR POPCORN: Our popcorn is legendary. Some say it's the best in the world. We have a brand new Gold Medal popcorn machine. We're very fussy about ingredients and preparation. We pop fresh daily, on site. For a topping we use drawn butter (unless you prefer your popcorn without).
HELP WANTED: We often have part-time openings for people (10-20 hours per week, mainly nights and weekends) to help with virtually all the activities of a thriving movie theatre/video store complex. We offer flexible scheduling, a competitive hourly wage, free movies, soda, and a friendly and fast-paced workplace. The ideal candidate is bright, mature, personable, and not afraid of a few mechanical challenges also. Send e-mail to chenry@merr.com or pick up an application at the theatre.
ADMISSION POLICY FOR RATED R MOVIES: Children under the age of 16 are admitted to R RATED movies if a parent accompanies them to the film or brings them to the boxoffice and gives permission for them to attend the film. (Please, no notes or phone calls.)

GENERAL INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE Forgotten times Rebirth GENERAL INFORMATION Today, one can see the terraces of the Vienne theatre lining the western flank of the Pipet hill (the cavea ) and, below, a semi-circular space (the orchestra ) as well as a reconstruction of the wall (the proscaenium ) which delineated the stage (the pulpitum ). At the back, the foundations of the stage and the pit for scrolling the backcloth have been preserved. The approximately 32 metre high wall ( frons scaenae ) which closed off the building on the city side, has disappeared.
The general layout of the monument is fairly well-known in spite of the major reconstructions carried out in the course of excavations begun in 1922. The purpose of these reconstructions was to "preserve" the edifice and help understand it as well as to permit the re-use of the ancient structure as an entertainment site.
The Vienne theatre is one of a series of "classical" theatres inspired by those built in Rome from the second half of the 1st Century BC The theatre's diameter makes it the second theatre in Gaul after the Autun theatre (148 m. diameter). Including the upper portico, it has a diameter of 129.8 m (439 Roman feet). It has the same dimensions as the
