64. The Grand Palace In Bangkok In Thailand
Photographs by Nattawud Daoruang of this huge palace enclosure built in 1783, containing government offices and the Chapel Royal of the Emerald Buddha besides the royal residences.
http://www.thaistudents.com/guidebook/palace1.html
This palace has an area of 218,400 sq. metres and is surrounded by walls built in 1783. The length of the four walls totals 1900 metres. Within these walls are situated government offices and the Chapel Royal of the Emerald Buddha besides the royal residences. When Siam restored law and order after the fall of Ayutthaya the monarch lived in Thonburi on the other side of the river. Rama I, immediately on ascending the throne, moved the centre of administration to this side of the Chao Phraya; and, after erecting public monuments such as fortifications and monasteries, built a palace to serve not only as his residence but also his offices - the various ministries, only one of which remains in the palace walls. This palace came to be known as the Grand Palace, in which the earliest edifices contemporary with the foundation of Bangkok were the two groups of residences named the Dusit-Mahaprasard and the Mahamontien. Media rallies against Thai government
A newspaper shop owner shows The Nation and local language sister publication Kom Chat Luk, with a headline that reads "Dark ages, threat to press freedom" Staff and wires BANGKOK, Thailand Media professionals in Thailand are seeking an investigation into the conduct of the government over alleged media intimidation which could lead to an impeachment process against Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The Bangkok Post reported Friday that an open letter signed by hundreds working in print and electronic media would be submitted Monday to Parliament President Uthai Pimchaichon and Senate Speaker Maj-Gen Manoonkrit Roopkachorn. The letter charges the government with gross infringement of press freedom and acting in violation of the constitution during a series of recent moves against media organisations. The Senate possesses the authority to dismiss holders of any political office found guilty of power abuses that violate the constitution.

    72. GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS -- JUDICIARY AND JUSTICE ADMINISTRATION
The history of judiciary and the administration of justice in thailand Office of the Prime Minister, Royal Thai government. (1995). thailand in the 90s.
    http://sunsite.au.ac.th/thailand/government/judi.html
The history of judiciary and the administration of justice in Thailand can be traced back into the Sukhothai period (1257-1378). According to a stone inscription recorded in the reign of King Ramkhamhaeng the Great, is showed the notion that the King was the “Fountain of Justice” sho, sometimes, adjudicated the cases himself. The modern judiciary and legal system in the formality as some Western countries was laid down in the reign of King Chulalongkorn the Great, the fifth monarch of the Royal House of Chakri (1968-1910). The Ministry of Justice was also established in 1892. Presently, the Courts of Justice are divided into three categories, i.e., the Courts of First Instance, the Courts of Appeal and the Supreme Court. There are about 140 Courts of First Instance throughout the Kingdom. In Bangkok Metropolis, they are, for example, the Civil Court, the Criminal Court, the Juvenile and Family Court, the Central Labour Court and the Central Tax Court, including Kwaeng Courts which have jurisdiction over minor civil cases and criminal cases with maximum punishment of imprisonment not exceeding 3 years or fine not exceeding Baht 60,000 or both. In the provinces, they are the Provincial Courts, and in some large provinces the Provincial Juvenile and Family Courts and Kwaeng Courts are included. The courts of Appeal consist of one Bangkok based Court of Appeal and three Regional Courts of Appeal. There is one Supreme Court with jurisdiction to review and admudicate all cases, and the Court’s judgments are final. However, in criminal cases the accused may petition His Majesty the King for clemency.

    http://countrystudies.us/thailand/75.htm
    Government
Thailand Table of Contents Under the Constitution of 1978, Thailand has a British-style cabinet form of government with King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX, 1946- ) reigning as constitutional monarch and Prime Minister Prem Tinsulanonda heading the government. Unlike the British prime minister, however, Prem was not a leader of or even a member of any political party in the nation's parliament, the National Assembly, nor did he run for election in the July 1986 election that led to the formation of his four-party coalition government. This was his fifth cabinet and seventh year in officeno mean accomplishment in a country that had witnessed numerous coups, countercoups, and attempted coups during its sporadic experiments with parliamentary government since 1932. Unlike many of his predecessors, Prem became prime minister in March 1980 not by a coup, the traditional route to power, but by consensus among key politicians. At that time he was the commander in chief of the Royal Thai Army, a post that was long considered to be the most powerful in the country. With little dissent from any quarter, he succeeded Kriangsak Chomanand, who had resigned as prime minister amid mounting economic and political tensions. A group of disgruntled officers, popularly known as "the Young Turks," attempted coups against Prem in 1981 and 1985. These attempts, however, had no disruptive effect on political stability.
