Two adjacent sanctuaries, Thung Yai naresuan and Huai Kha Khaeng , together create a huge wildlife sanctuary covering 622,000 hectares, and has been made a World Heritage Site. The sanctuaries together shelter 21 endangered species and 65 threatened ones. The extreme wet and dry seasons, which give rise alternately to bush fires and floods, along with government regulations to keep visits limited, keep the natural environment for the animals remarkably undisturbed.
