Federal subsidies available to teachers seeking certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
August 8, 2003 To the Individual or Organization Addressed: Subject: FEDERAL SUBSIDIES AVAILABLE TO TEACHERS SEEKING CERTIFICATION THROUGH THE NATIONAL BOARD FOR PROFESSIONAL TEACHING STANDARDS A limited number of federal candidate subsidies are available to Texas teachers who wish to pursue voluntary teacher certification under the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) in 2003-04. The subsidies have been provided by Congress through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Please post or disseminate the attached information to teachers who may be interested in seeking certification through the NBPTS.

Sine Die: the Legislature Adjourns (Statement)
"As the Governor and legislative leaders fail for the fourth time to even offer a real school finance solution, TSTA and thousands of Texas teachers can only hope that they abandon their shortsighted vision for our schools. Instead of another blueprint for failure, our children deserve a plan designed for success," TSTA President Donna New Haschke told the media today. "By insisting on the same failed plan, our state leaders demanded that legislators vote against the best interests of their children's schools, their communities, and our great state. Fortunately, a majority of members in both chambers refused to do so.
