Tell me more about the FBISD Board of Trustees . . . Who can serve on the Fort Bend ISD Board of Trustees? Residents of the district, 18 years of age or older, who have resided in Texas for at least 12 months and in the district for at least six months and are registered voters, may serve on the Board. In 1959, when the Missouri City and Sugar Land school districts consolidated to form Fort Bend ISD, the Board of Trustees was set up with seven positions – three from the former Missouri City district, three from the former Sugar Land district, and one at-large position. Does this mean that Board members represent only their community, and not the district at-large? No. Each Board member serves every resident of Fort Bend ISD, no matter where they reside, and all Fort Bend ISD residents vote for all positions on the Board. How long are Board of Trustees terms? Trustees are elected to three-year terms on a rotating basis. Two are elected each year, one from each side of the district. Every third year, the at-large position is elected. Do Board members receive financial compensation for their time?

"Viewers of the great 1973 movie The Sting , which introduced the concept of the Big Con, will recall that the secret of this ultimate confidence game is that the mark must never come to know that he was played. He must continue to believe the game was the real thing."
    John Podhoretz
Have you been on your school's "Math Committee"? Or the "Character Committee"? Or the "Literature Enrichment Committee"?
At best, many "consensus" committees whittle away personal goals in favor of lukewarm conclusions that make no one happy. Emerson said, "A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." One is also reminded of Margaret Thatcher's quote, To me consensus seems to be: the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies in search of something in which no one believes, but to which no one objects; the process of avoiding the very issues that have to be solved, merely because you cannot get agreement on the way ahead. What great cause would have been fought and won under the banner "I stand for consensus"? But many school and business committees are not really intended to even meet that goal.

What is a 'drug'?

A drug is any chemical that produces a therapeutic or non-therapeutic effect in the body. Chemicals, on the other hand, are a broad class of substances including drugs that may or may not produce noticeable effects in the body. Many chemicals (such as tin, lead, gold) have harmful effects on the body, especially in high doses. Most foods are not drugs. Alcohol is a drug not a food, in spite of the calories it provides. Nicotine is a chemical that is also a drug. The group of "illegal" drugs includes dangerous chemicals that have only toxic actions, such as inhalants.
Teenagers and Drugs Teenagers may be involved with legal or illegal drugs in
various ways. Experimentation with drugs during adolescence is common.
