US Home Intel Worldwide Where to Buy Contact Us ... Texas Education Education Intel is committed to helping today's students be successful in school and prepared for the demands of tomorrow. Our specific goals are to improve science and math education in K-12, enable teachers to use technology effectively in the classroom to improve student learning, broaden access to technology, and encourage women and minorities to enter technical careers. Intel Austin supports K-12 education primarily in the Austin area through funding for science, math and pre-engineering programs, particularly those programs targeting women and under-represented populations. We also provide computer equipment grants to public schools through our Technology for Schools Program and encourage employee volunteer support of education with the Intel Volunteer Matching Grants Program. Volunteer Matching Grants Program
Intel's Volunteer Matching Grant Program means that for every 20 hours that Intel employees volunteer at a particular school, the Intel Foundation will donate $200 to that school. Public and private schools are eligible to receive matching grants. Intel employees reported over 300 volunteer hours in nine local schools, resulting in $3,000 in VMGP donations for the 2003-2004 academic year.

Cactus Ranch Elementary School, Round Rock ISD
This 94,000 SF elementary school includes 53 classrooms, a media center, cafetorium, gymnasium, music room, science labs, art rooms, computer labs, life skills lab, resource rooms, and common areas. The media center is the focal point of the school containing community meeting spaces, wireless computer technology, and a story stage. Dramatic natural light and colorful suspended panels animate the space, welcoming visitors, and enticing students to learn. The site, located in a new development, required collaboration with district staff, community, developer and city to complete the school within an aggressive 11-month schedule. The school received two awards in the TASA/TASB 2002 Exhibit of School Architecture for "Value" and "Process of Planning". In addition, Cactus Ranch was honored as an Outstanding Building and Project by American School & University Magazine and was named an Outstanding Construction Project in the $10-$30 million category by both the Austin and Texas Chapters of the Association of General Contractors.

The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) has implemented a new, much more restrictive policy on foods that are provided to students. The policy will be aggressively enforced and schools found to have violated the policy will lose a day of meal reimbursement funds from the state and will be required to reimburse the food service account for the lost reimbursement. While the original policy applied only to Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value (FMNVs), the new policy applies to any type of candy and also restricts the provision of 'competitive foods," which are all foods and beverages not provided by school food services. 2002 (Last updated May 2005)
How do schools differ in grade configuration?
Schools in the United States are organized in different ways: some schools include K-3, K-4, K-5, K-6, K-8, K-9, or K-12; others are organized as middle schools, junior high schools, and senior high schools; and still others consist of students in just one grade, such as a kindergarten center or a ninth-grade center. Some schools include pre-kindergarten. The U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics (2002) provides data on the number of regular public school districts providing instruction and the percentage of students in membership, by grade span and by state, for the school year 2000-2001 (
