The geographic names team locates feature names in a variety of formats and from a variety of sources such as books, the Internet, databases, lists, digital maps, and state agencies. Extracting Name data The Texas model uses a variety of scripts and computer programs to extract names, address ranges and attribute values for features. The team plans to publish those scripts on the Internet and, in the spirit of information sharing, will make them available to other geographic names teams.
