Recently, geographic analysis has been enriched by the development of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technologies, and U.T. Dallas has created a graduate certification program for those who wish to add GIS competencies to their marketable skills. This certification is recommended for all geography majors who meet the requirements for enrolling in graduate courses. Students interested in the GIS Certificate should consult with their academic advisor. Geography majors who graduate from U.T. Dallas, especially those who incorporate the GIS Certificate into their curriculum, are provided an educational experience to allow them to put their degrees, backgrounds, and experience to use in a wide variety of post graduate educational and occupational positions, including:

Giving The Department of History, Geography, and Economics is primarily responsible for the instruction of courses in History (HIST), Geography (GEOG), and Economics (ECON). In addition to course offerings in these disciplines, the Department also provides instruction in one Geology (GEOL) course offered through the University. To complement course offerings, three undergraduate degrees and one graduate degree may be earned through or in conjunction with this instructional unit: the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in History, the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Economics, the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in General Studies, and the Master of Arts (M.A.) in History. The Bachelor of Arts in General Studies is offered in conjunction with the Office of the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Behavioral Sciences.
