The following cemetery listing was scanned from:
Hood County Genealogical Society Newsletter No. 19; August 1988
Editor: Merle McNeese HERRING CEMETERY - Hood County Herring family burial site for generations. First grave was the mother of S. C. Herring in November, 1880. Driving instructions to the cemetery from Granbury: Leave Granbury town square on North Houston Street. Travel 3.5 miles on Highway #4 to Thorp Spring. Turn right onto Highway #2580 and proceed for 3.5 miles to the entrance or Arrowhead Shores. Turn right into second gateway with the name in the stone markers. Inside the area of Arrow- head Shores turn left and drive to swimming pool. Turn right an Park Street. Take first left onto Highland Drive. Follow that to Highland Circle. Turn right and continue to the cemetery gate. You will have driven approximately .5 mile within Arrowhead Shores. Highland is a very winding street. There are mobile homes that will hide the cemetery from your view; so look carefully! In August, 1988, we found 63 groves that were marked and could be identified. There are at least twelve or more with fieldstone markers, but there is no inscription visible.

Welcome to The USGenWeb Project! We are a group of volunteers working together to provide Internet websites for genealogical research in every county and every state of the United States. This Project is non-commercial and fully committed to free access for everyone. Organization is by county and state, and this website provides you with links to all the state websites which, in turn, provide gateways to the counties. The USGenWeb Project also sponsors important Special Projects at the national level and this website provides an entry point to all of those pages, as well.
Although the basic unit of organization for The USGenWebProject is at the county level, State Websites include very important information as well, including such resources for postings of unknown county queries, family reunion bulletin boards, state histories, and maps showing the changing county boundaries, among others. Many states also have ongoing projects as diverse as the transcription of Civil War regiments or the reuniting of families with lost photos, bibles, etc.

Jack County History Jack County was created from Cooke County in 1856. The first court met July 22, 1857 in the front yard of one T. S. Nettles somewhere in the old Salt Creek community. Jacksboro, known at first as Mesquiteville, is the site of Fort Richardson which is now a part of a State Park and displays the restored fort historically. Fort Richardson was established in 1867 as one of the second line forts against the Indians. It was also on the Butterfield Stage Route, known as the Upper California Road and the Southern Overland Mail route. From 1875-1876 the Mooar Brothers' buffalo trail led through Fort Richardson, and the Old Emigrant Trail passed through Jacksboro, traveling from Gainsville to Fort Griffin. bordered by Clay, Archer, and Montague counties to the north, Young County to the west, Palo Pinto and Parker counties to the south, and Wise County to the east. Jacksboro is the county seat and the largest town in the county.

Most of the information I have found has been located in trees 2668 and 2024. Some information is also contained in tree 1040. Tree 2668 contains the most information dating back to Stephen Durden (spelled Durdin in tree 1040) who was born in 1611 in Lancashire, England. Stephen apparently immigrated to the United States some time after his birth and died in Nansemond, Virginia about 1679.
