Your generous contribution of food product, funds and volunteer service supports the many programs of the North Texas Food Bank. These programs benefit the 400-member agencies that include charities, churches and social service organizations. These agencies receive food from the Food Bank and distribute it to North Texans in need through their pantry and on-site meal programs. North Texans who seek assistance from our member agencies come from a variety of backgrounds. These individuals and families may be your neighbors, your co-workers, your friends or even your family. Many of them are the working poor. Each month they must pay for transportation, housing and utilities in that order - and then hope that their already-limited resources will cover a month's supply of food for their family. Many of those served by our member agencies have recently lost their jobs through no fault of their own. Others are dealing with overwhelming healthcare expenses. Even natural disasters can play a part in straining an already over- extended income.

    Where Texas Began
Brazoria County, “The Cradle of Texas” Stephen F Austin’s “Original 300" settled on the banks of the Brazos River in this coastal county in 1821. West Columbia is the site of the First Capital of the Republic in 1836. This legacy is a treasured by it’s residents and speak for its strong history in Agriculture. We annually produce $60 million of farm products, mainly cattle, rice, sorghum, and cotton; $20 million of seafood, mainly shrimp. The county is home to one of the world’s largest petrochemical complexes, vast resources of bottom land hardwoods, and more than 70,000 acres of national wildlife refuges. Brazoria County Extension Service works with communities, groups and individuals to improve the quality of their lives by providing them with research-based information to meet their needs.
