Patterns of Global Terrorism
The annual "Patterns of Global Terrorism" report is submitted in compliance with Title 22 of the United States Code, Section 2656f(a), which requires the Department of State to provide Congress a full and complete annual report on terrorism for those countries and groups meeting the criteria of Section (a)(1) and (2) of the Act. The 2001 report states, "[T]errorism cast its lethal shadow across the globeyet the world's resolve to defeat it has never been greater. . . . This chilling report details the very clear and present danger that terrorism poses to the world and the efforts that the United States and our partners in the international community are making to defeat it. The cold, hard facts presented here compel the world's continued vigilance and concerted action. " Ambassador Francis X. Taylor, former Coordinator for Counterterrorism, emphasizes that "the US Government and our Coalition partners have worked countless hours to ensure that the lives of those murdered on 9/11 were not lost in vain. . . . As this annual report demonstrates, their support has been much more than rhetorical. This unprecedented Coalition of nations has sought to synchronize diplomatic, intelligence, law enforcement, economic, financial, and military power to attack terrorism globally." As President Bush said in an address to Congress on September 20, 2001, "Our war on terror begins with al-Qaida, but it does not end there. It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped, and defeated."

Pakistan leaders vote to help fight terrorism
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) As President Bush prepared to huddle again with his national security advisers, the government of Pakistan signaled Saturday it is willing to fulfill its pledge to "fully cooperate" with the United States in its war against the terrorist responsible for the World Trade Center and Pentagon terror attacks. During a meeting with Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf the Pakistani cabinet and security council voted unanimously to "help the international community fight terrorism." A spokesman said the government would immediately "hold consultations with the Pakistani people" to build a consensus for the decision. The United States has given the Pakistan government a "wish list" of actions it wants Pakistan to take. Included on that list is allowing, if requested, U.S. warplanes access to Pakistani airspace. The ruling Taliban government of Afghanistan threatened any neighboring country that allows its soil to be used to help the United States stage an attack on Afghanistan.

Hart:'This is not the end of the age of terrorism'
(CNN) In the wake of the September 11 attacks, there are more concerns about the possibility of new acts of terrorism on U.S. soil. Former U.S. Sen. Gary Hart, who co-chaired a commission on national security in the 21st century, believes there is reason to be concerned. CNN anchor Bill Hemmer spoke Wednesday morning with Hart about the possibility of future terrorist attacks. HEMMER: You made a speech last night at Yale, talking about the concern that you have for the possibility, again I want to underline that the possibility of new attacks. What gives you reason to think that? HART: I have no special information. What my instincts are basically shaped and formed by (is) the information we collected as members of this commission over the last two and a half years. I think the intelligence estimates and briefings we received from terrorism and counter-terrorism experts, led me at least, to believe that this is not the end of the age of terrorism, but perhaps just the beginning. But I have no special information.

They have used American tanks, American helicopter gunships, American warplanes, and American missiles against civilians. In the same period, in response to the Israeli killings, Palestinian suicide bombers have killed approximately 200 Israelis. In Jenin the Israeli army used bulldozers to crush house in which civilians sheltered, the Israelis used civilians as human shields when they attacked Palestinians and checked for booby traps. These acts fall within the definition of war crimes. Israel has developed weapons of mass destruction and has over 200 nuclear weapons, and the USA has done nothing about it.

Terrorism Terrorism is defined in the Code of Federal Regulations as "the unlawful use of force and violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives." When terrorism strikes, communities may receive assistance from State and Federal agencies operating within the existing Integrated Emergency Management System. FEMA is the lead Federal agency for supporting State and local response to the consequences of terrorist attacks. FEMA's role in managing terrorism includes both antiterrorism and counterterrorism activities. Antiterrorism refers to defensive measures used to reduce the vulnerability of people and property to terrorist acts, while counterterrorism includes offensive measures taken to prevent, deter, and respond to terrorism. Within the emergency management arena, antiterrorism is a hazard mitigation activity and counterterrorism falls within the scope of preparedness, response and recovery. Koizumi pushes Japan anti-terrorism bill
The prime minister wants quick approval of the anti-terrorism bills. TOKYO, Japan For the first time since World War II, Japanese troops may soon be able to assist in overseas military operations. Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi is calling for the swift passage of two anti-terrorism bills, so that Japan can offer non-combat, logistical support for the U.S.led coalition. Koizumi, keen to actively contribute to U.S.-led efforts against terrorism, says that the country planned to face the "war on terror" with a "firm resolve." "Terrorism is a huge challenge to all peaceful and democratic nations, and we plan to cooperate with the United States and other nations in facing this," he said. The bills will clarify the potential role of military forces outside of Japan without breaching its pacifist constitution one that does not allow the use of force in an international dispute.

Senate looks at children in post-terrorism world
WASHINGTON (CNN) A U.S. Senate subcommittee Friday began to grapple with the traumatic effects of the terrorist attacks of September 11 and the anthrax crisis on the nation's children. "Twenty percent of our population is made up of children, yet children are 100 percent of our future," said Senator Chris Dodd, D-Connecticut, who chairs the Subcommittee on Children and Families. The panel looked at both the psychological and physical impacts that acts of terrorism have on children. Bernard S. Arons, director of the Center for Mental Health Services at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, said difficulties children may have sleeping or doing other routine activities should be expected for a time.
