Tennis great Boris Becker supports London 2012 Olympic tennis venue at Wimbledon as ‘the perfect tennis site’
24 Jun 2005 London: Tennis legend Boris Becker today backed the London 2012 Olympic bid’s proposed tennis venue at Wimbledon as “the perfect tennis site.” Becker, an Olympic gold medallist (Barcelona 1992) and multiple Grand Slam tennis title champion, said he supported the Olympic Games in London and in particular the Olympic tennis competition at Wimbledon. “I'm sure Wimbledon will host an incredible Olympic tennis tournament,” Becker said today at a media briefing on the London 2012 Olympic Games Bid. Three times Wimbledon champion Becker said he supported the Olympic Games and Olympic tennis in London because of the special relationship he has with the United Kingdom and London through tennis. “This particular city (London) and in particular Wimbledon, are obviously very close to my heart. I call this my second birthplace,” Becker said. Becker said he was supporting Wimbledon in particular because it is “in my opinion, the perfect tennis site.”

What kind of chances do some of you who are familiar with Bode give him to make it past a few rounds, or possibly into the main draw? I wonder if he will play some of the Futures as well
Anyone who can attend his events should get some stuff on tape if possible. ohplease 02-22-2004, 08:31 PM I saw that same article today. I consider this month's Tennis the "your life sucks" issue, partly because of the Bode article, but also becuase of that whole MBA Davis Cup piece as well. One dude's got Olympic medals, these other folks will be financial movers and shakers - and they're all better tennis players than you are. Jeez.
Back on topic - in a sport where preternatural balance and daring are prerequisites, Bode sits back on his tails and makes all the other freaks go "whoa." I'd love to see him play some ball. @wright 02-22-2004, 08:42 PM Too bad he's not moving to tennis from a sport like Football, basketball, or baseball. That would actually turn heads and shed some light on tennis and maybe even garner some interest from the public.

Olympic Tennis Centre
Olympic Tennis Centre (AFP) Tennis events in Athens will take place at the centre of the action with the Olympic Tennis Centre part of the Olympic Sports Complex in the northern Athens suburb of Maroussi. Nearby are the main Olympic Stadium, the basketball venue, the Aquatics Centre and the Velodrome. A resemblance to the Sydney tennis set-up is no coincidence - both complexes were designed by British architect Richard Rees. There are 16 courts in total including three show courts, the main court seating 8,600 and the other two 7,600 each. The other courts have space for around 200 spectators. The Olympic tennis tournament takes place directly before the US Open and both will be played on the same surface - the hardcourt Decoturf II. A players' lounge, locker rooms and media centre are all located around the centre court.

Proposed Structure for Surfing to Become an
Olympic Sport
Bruce Gabrielson, PhD
Chesapeake Beach, Maryland
September 28, 1995
Introduction The following comments are not intended to circumvent any ongoing discussions the ISA might have with the US Olympic Committee or any other Olympic organization. I also do not imply that I represent the ESA or any other competition surfing organization. My paper simply proposes a competition format (using a new technology) which might be acceptable in the future to all countries with Olympic teams, regardless of if they have a coastline or are landlocked. It should also be recognized that the following comments are made from the perspective of a US surfer. Current Problem With World Wide Acceptance In my opinion, surfing faces two problems. The major problem currently is the disadvantage landlocked countries have with a sport that isn't widely supported in their own country. The second problem, at least in the US, is that the National Governing Body (NGB) for surfing hasn't been serious enough in its efforts to basically "beg" acceptance from the already accepted sports. World wide acceptance and host country acceptance are both issues that must be resolved. This paper will address both overcoming the reluctance of land locked countries, and the acceptance of surfing by other established and recognized sports.

Molik makes Olympic tennis history
Last Updated: Sunday, August 22, 2004. 4:22am (AEST) Alicia Molik became the first Australian to ever win an Olympic tennis medal when she beat Russia's French Open champion Anastasia Myskina 6-3, 6-4 to claim the bronze in Athens overnight. Molik overcame her nerves after allowing fourth seed Myskina to win three games in a row to lead the second set 3-2. "I was obviously pretty emotional and very, very nervous," the 23-year-old said. "Today was pretty special because if I'd come out the loser I wouldn't have anything to remember the Olympics by. It was the last bite of the cherry." The 23rd-ranked Molik has now defeated four of the world's top 15 players in the last three weeks. She beat world number two Amelie Mauresmo in San Diego before losing to the Frenchwoman in yesterday's semi-finals, opened her Olympic campaign with victory over sixth-ranked Elena Dementieva of Russia, the French Open finalist, and in the quarter-finals beat Japan's Ai Sugiyama, currently the world number 13. Myskina was still feeling the effects of her three hour semi-final, when she threw away her chance of reaching the gold medal match by allowing Belgian world number one Justin Henin-Hardenne to claw her way back from 1-5 in the final set for a dramatic win.
