    A. Collections
    General
Efforts to expand the library's digital collections proceeded on many fronts. Digital Library collection development included: writing and submitting new grants; obtaining funding to move projects beyond the pilot stage; accepting proposals to digitize new collections; and preparing processed collections for online presentation. Electronic Services added many new subscriptions, while reducing costs by eliminating duplication of content. Collection Development has been working with many departments to identify materials worthy of digitization, include digital collections in the budget, and develop an institutional repository for the university.
    University Catalogs Online
This is a new electronic archive of current and past versions (going back 10 years) of the University of Tennessee's Graduate and Undergraduate Catalogs. As print versions are no longer available by mail, this collection has rapidly become an important access point for curriculum information.

    Vanderbilt University School of Nursing
Vanderbilt University School of Nursing is one of two schools within the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, which has a three-fold mission: education of health professionals, research in the health sciences, and patient care. The School of Nursing, which opened in 1909 as the Vanderbilt Hospital Training School for Nurses became part of the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in 1984, a move that has facilitated joint educational, research and practice efforts. Rockefeller Foundation grants financed the development of its baccalaureate program, one of the nation's first, in 1923. The first BSN degree was awarded in 1934 and in 1955, a program leading to the degree Master of Science in Nursing was introduced.
This relationship allows for close associations between the School and the Department of Nursing Services at Vanderbilt University Hospital. Numerous opportunities are available for nursing faculty and students to collaborate with nursing staff, medical faculty and medical students in the areas of teaching, research and practice.

    MEMPHIS, SHELBY COUNTY, TENNESSEE
Preface: The following document was prepared to update the environmental public health discussion presented in two health consultations for DCERP Site #79-212, Downtown School Memphis City Schools, dated January 2 and March 13, 2003, by the ATSDR.
BACKGROUND AND STATEMENT OF ISSUES In December 2003, the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), Drycleaner Environmental Response Program (DCERP), requested that the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH), Communicable and Environmental Disease Services (CEDS), Environmental Epidemiology (EEP), assist with a one-year health checkup of the Downtown School. The school is located at 10 North Fourth Street, Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, 38103. Downtown School was built over a site operated for decades as a laundry and drycleaner. Although no health risks were discovered in two prior health investigations , school officials appealed to DCERP for reassurance. DCERP and EEP decided that additional indoor air sampling was justified because elementary school children are a sensitive population This health consultation focuses on indoor air samples collected during the school's 2003 winter break. Improved Academic Achievement AND a New Library “Home of the Pioneers” reads a huge sign on the front wall of Pine View Elementary School in Rockwood, Tennessee, and the pioneer spirit is certainly alive and well at this school nestled among the scenic hills. Though small in size – the school houses fewer than 170 students in kindergarten through eighth grade – Pine View has made breakthroughs in more than one area. Four years ago, when Patricia Allen accepted the position of principal, there was a general agreement that some things needed to change. Its students repeatedly earned the lowest test scores in the district. Whether in the classrooms, the lunchroom, or on the playground, squabbles and skirmishes often erupted. The faculty and staff were certainly disheartened by the entire situation. This was a school with academic issues, behavioral issues, and morale issues. Oh yes…they also had no library. Books!
