An Overview of Agriculture:
From a historical point of view, agriculture has played a key role in the survival and demise of civilisations all over the world. The long-term success of a nation's agricultural enterprises ensured the survival and growth of the population. The need for efficient agricultural production is still relevant in today's modern society. This becomes apparent when you consider that the growing global population will demand more food and resources in the future. This is why education in the field of agriculture is essential for the youth of tomorrow so as they can make responsible decisions that will ultimately affect farming in the future.
Statement of Personal Teaching Philosophy:
My role as a classroom teacher of secondary school students is to provide an optimum learning environment for ALL students in my class. I will encourage students to become self-motivated learners who work effectively, independently and co-operatively My role is to guide individual development of students through recognisable stages of development.

      • "Traditional" programs are being redesigned to meet the needs of adult learners. Many now offer longer-term, part-time study to allow prospective teachers to work while they go to school. Other programs offer flexible scheduling on weekends and evenings, as well as internships and apprenticeships. These programs sometimes carry stipends and offer alternatives to traditional coursework to accommodate the lifestyles of adult learners.

For background information on the National Agriculture in the Classroom program, follow this link: www.agclassroom.org Each state organizes and operates its AITC activities differently. This diversity results in a rich mixture of approaches to agricultural education. The volunteers and professional staff who are involved with Agriculture in the Classroom share creative ideas and information to strengthen programs and help to achieve the common objective of increasing agricultural literacy. Below are examples of the types of activities offered through Agriculture in the Classroom programs across the nation. Following each category is a list of some states that offer the activity (based on the 2003 State Summaries published by the USDA Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service).
