Rusty began her dancing career at the tender age of six, when she saw her first Shirley Temple movie ("I wanna do that!"). She started with tap dancing, studying with many of the great tap masters, including her mentor, Louis DaPron, as well as Fayard Nicholas, Brenda Bufalino, Steve Condos, Gene Nelson, Miriam Nelson, LaVaughn Robinson, Bob Scheerer, Lou Wills, Jr., Leonard Reed, Dorothy Toy, Katherine Hopkins Nicholas, and Jon Zerby. She has tap danced professionally over the years with The San Francisco Tap Troupe, Six Feet (Wayne Doba, Rodney Price), Pedal Extremities (Walter Freeman, Mark Mendonca, Michael Rainey), Tapology (Patti Meagher), The Rhythm Rascals (Walter Freeman), Mulligan and Whitmore "Tops in Taps" (Chester Whitmore), and The Rhythm Pals (Alfred Desio). In 1989, 1990, and 1991, Rusty produced, directed, and appeared in the sellout all-star tap revue "Jazz Tap"! featuring the Nicholas Brothers, Savion Glover, Jeni LeGon, Arthur Duncan, and Brenda Bufalino. Rusty had featured roles in many musical theatre productions, including "42nd Street," "Babes In Arms," "Dames at Sea," and "Stepping Out."

Encyclopedia o f Chicago ... User's Guide Entries : Tap Dance Entries T Tap Dance Next Tap Dance Tap, a hybrid dance form deriving from both African and Irish cultures and distinguished by its rhythms, has a long history in Chicago, one made apparent by a resurgence of the genre in the last decades of the twentieth century. Paralleling the international growth of tap dance, Chicago's revival grew out of an alliance between an older generation of African American tap dancers and a younger generation of rhythm tappers. Individual artists like Jimmy Payne, a tap performer and teacher in Chicago since the 1940s, provided living links to the vaudeville and Broadway tradition, while forums like the Chicago Human Rhythm Project, an annual tap festival begun in 1990 by Lane Alexander and Kelly Michaels, fostered awareness and collaboration between artists and audiences of various backgrounds. At the close of the century, leading Chicago tap companies included the Especially Tap Company, Steppin' Out, Rhythm I. S. S., and the Jump Rhythm Jazz Project. Camp sessions range from 2 to 9 weeks in length. Camp Ballibay was established 1964, and is American Camping Association accredited. This site requires a browser which supports frames Ballibay for the Fine and Performing arts is a summer camp for theater, art, music, dance, video and radio. Campers choose their own schedule, selecting involvement in acting, musical theatre, fine arts (including painting, drawing, ceramics and photography), jazz, modern, ballet or tap dance, instrumental or vocal music, piano, rock-n-roll music, including guitar, bass and drums, and video and/or radio.
Drama camps often offer acting lessons; we do not do this at Ballibay; we teach theatre as a part of the rehearsal process, in both musical theatre, drama, comedy, and classical theatre. For all major productions, two or three staffmembers are involved full time with the production: the theatre director, the stage manager, and the musical director (if applicable), and teaching happens in the context of rehearsals, while campers are onstage and offstage.
With a production almost every night of the summer, there are many technical theatre and backstage opportunities in the areas of lighting, sound, costume, makeup, sets, stage management and crew.

Apart from being an essential skill for the professional dancer, tap dance is one of the most enjoyable and rhythmic forms of recreational dance. The work of the Faculty reflects this by providing extensive syllabi for the amateur market in addition to the children's and professional syllabi. Examinations
The Faculty offers a series of examinations from Children's grades through to professional teaching qualifications. The grade and the major syllabi were revised in the 1980s to reflect the influence of American Tap on British Musical Theatre. In addition there are:

Tap Dancing and Skateboarding Combined
Mark Stosberg About Currents
ARRAY(0x85ac634) I had an aha moment tonight as I was taking off my tap shoes. I was noticing how the taps were being worn down similar to the way skateboard trucks wear down. And then I thought: "Why not use my taps directly as trucks?" I could tap dance up to a curb or a ledge, and then jump up and slide along on it using my metal taps, and then do another little musical trick off. I immediately took the shoe back into the kitchen and simulated a slide on the edge of the dinner table. "Yeah, with the right tweaking of the toes, it could work!", I thought. There could be slides with both taps on a single foot, just the heel tap, just the toe tap, both feet, and all sort of variations! If this sounds far out, perhaps you haven't see the "freestyle walking" craze started by Soap Shoes . The next step: get my shoes out in the street and try and it out! I'll let you know.

    Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza
Murfreesboro's reigning metal-band shows us 'Who's The Boss?'
By Joe Freisinger Published: Thursday, September 16, 2004 Media Credit: Dylan Hawes-Glynn Lead singer Jessie Freeland
In the ever diverse, complex society of today's metal, there are two main types of bands: those who make jokes and those who are jokes. Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza falls into the first group.
Though their name is a bit misleading (if you're a fan of Who's the Boss?, don't expect to see Anthony Micelli cutting loose on the stage), it is a funny one. Four laid-back guys from Louisiana and one from Tennessee form Middle Tennessee's finest Tony Danza-ian metal band.
I had the chance to reminisce with guitarist Brad Thompson about a band I was never part of, while he discussed the past and promise of Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza. I pelted him with individually unrelated questions and he had an answer for everyone.

    Tap Dancing
Tap dance began in the 1830s in New York City as a fusion of the African Shuffle and Irish, Scottish, and English step dances. Dancers from different immigrant groups would get together to compete and show off their best moves. As the dances fused, a new American style of dancing emerged – Tap dancing.
Tap flourished in the U.S. from 1900 to 1955, when it was the main performance dance of Vaudeville and Broadway. Vaudeville was the inexpensive entertainment before television, and it employed many skilled tap dancers. Many big bands included tap dances as part of their show. For a while, every city in the U.S. had amateur street tap performers.
At the time, tap dance was also called jazz dance, because jazz was the music that tap dancers performed with. In the 1950s, the style of entertainment changed. Jazz music and tap dance declined, while rock and roll music and the new jazz dance emerged. What is now called jazz dance evolved out of tap dance, so both dances have many moves in common. But jazz evolved separately from tap to become a new form in its own right.

The list begins with a rare late fifteenth-century source, Les basses danses de Marguerite d'Autriche (c.1490) and ends with Ella Gardner's 1929 Public dance halls, their regulation and place in the recreation of adolescents. Along with dance instruction manuals, this online presentation also includes a significant number of antidance manuals, histories, treatises on tiquette, and items from other conceptual categories.
