Grant Writer and Fund-Raiser for Hawaii Gifted Association
Last updated on May 3, 2005 We're looking for experienced fund-raisers and grant writers to help get the Hawaii Gifted Association back on its feet. Funds raised will be used for start-up costs to get the organization up to speed again, and to offer enrichment programs to gifted and talented students. Gifted and talented students need resources that address their unique needs more than ever as government funding for school-based programs continues to decline. Gifted and talented programs are often the first to be cut. Yet, gifted and talented students continue to have unique needs that cannot be met in a regular classroom. The HGA will provide for some of these needs through on-going programs. Volunteers preferred who have some experience in fun-raising and grant writing. This opportunity is sponsored by: Hawaii Gifted Association We need volunteers who are free at these times Occasional I'm interested in this opportunity Contact Person:

Professional Training for Teachers of the Gifted and Talented. 1984 Digest.
Educators have always supported and challenged the abilities of the gifted and talented. However, only in the twentieth century has an academic discipline existed to provide training for teachers of high potential youth. In the United States alone, over 100 universities offer courses and degree or certificate programs. This Digest examines the roles of teachers of the gifted and talented, the roles of regular classroom teachers, and ways they work together. It also discusses necessary qualifications, ways to locate programs, and career opportunities in this field. WHAT IS THE ROLE OF TEACHERS OF THE GIFTED AND TALENTED? Teachers of the gifted and talented are generally responsible for one or more of the roles outlined below: Organizing enrichment activities for students and teachers in the school Gathering and disseminating information about innovative teaching practices, exemplary materials, resource persons, and special opportunities for gifted youngsters

What is the NZAGC? The New Zealand Association for Gifted Children (NZAGC) exists to promote the needs of gifted kids at national level and support and foster initiatives at local level which meet those needs.
Our Constitution puts this more formally as:
"NZAGC will champion the cause of gifted children at home, in their schooling and beyond. NZAGC will foster the educational and social development of gifted children through the achievement of a climate in which giftedness is recognised, understood and accepted as a valuable human attribute and in which the special needs of gifted children are met fully, effectively and with generosity."
The NZAGC provides an environment where gifted children, their parents, teachers and other education professionals can meet, learn from each other and help each other. Please use this website to make contact with members or others who can assist.
    Membership
of the NZAGC is for individuals, associations or schools who wish to support the goals of the Association and keep in contact with us; for parents of gifted children who do not live near a branch; and for others with a professional interest in the field. Our committee (National Council) is made up of parents, professionals and gifted education advisors.

Neag School of Education UConn Mentor Connection is a summer program for rising high school juniors and seniors located at the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. We believe students' interests, abilities, and motivation are very important talents. We also believe that it is essential for students to have opportunities to manifest their talents in high levels of creative productivity. Our work is based on the following additional beliefs:
    • Above average ability, creativity, and task commitment can be developed and nurtured.
    • Creative productivity results from the interaction of above average ability, creativity, and task commitment.
    • All social contexts, including school, the home, and the community can influence the incidence of creative productivity. The university setting provides an especially promising context for creative productivity because first-hand inquiry is the core of almost all daily work.
    • Creative and productive individuals exist in every ethnic and cultural group and across all socioeconomic levels.
