Since there are no written samples of Tagalog before the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century, very little is known about history of the language. However there is speculation among linguists that the ancestors of the Tagalogs originated, along with their Central Philippine cousins, from northeastern Mindanao or eastern Visayas The first known book to be written in Tagalog is the Doctrina Cristiana (Christian Doctrine) of 1593. Washington, DC! Our Approach ILI's foreign language courses are tailored to suit the student's specific needs and goals. We offer beginning, intermediate, and advanced class levels in each language. However, our instructors do not follow a fixed curriculum for each class. Every class is different because every student is different. Our instructors focus on the student's primary objectives in learning the language. Whether the student's aim is to learn survival Tagalog before taking a vacation, or to learn the proper vocabulary to write a business proposal in Tagalog, we can design the course to meet the student's professional, social, or educational needs.
Our Classes Our courses may be taken as a private tutorial, semi-private tutorial (2 students), special group course (3-5 students), or as group class at ILI (up to 9 students). Because of our approach, students in our semi-private tutorial or special group course must have the same objectives in mind. For example, a group would consist of employees of a same company, embassy, or professional organization.

Description
Tagalog is the language spoken in Manila and the adjacent regions in Luzon. The 1935 Philippine Constitution provided for a national language to be spoken throughout the country (Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao). Although not directly naming Tagalog , it served as a foundation for the said national language. Under the 1973 Philippine Constitution, a project was started to develop a national language, named Pilipino , which aimed to replace all words of foreign origins with local sounding words. Because of the widespread use of foreign derived words, the project did not succeed. This dilemna was remedied under the 1987 Philippine Constitution which provided for a national language, now named
