    Table Tennis
To win a point, the ball must hit the opponent's side of the table without a return of the ball. The ball cannot be played on the volley, as in tennis. The first opponent to reach 11 points, with a two-point margin, wins a game. If the score reaches 10-10, the match continues until the first player to have a two-point margin wins. China won every table tennis gold medal in Sydney and Atlanta plus a clutch of silvers, and there is no reason to believe this domination will end in Athens. But new rules have been put in place in an attempt to make the game more spectator-friendly - read more in out table tennis preview.

Table tennis is a great game, and here are some basics to get you started. There are more than a couple misunderstandings about this sport, and this article will help sort out some of the more common ones. Most of us have at least a nodding familiarity with ping pong. More serious enthusiasts in fact frown when they hear “ping pong,” insisting on “table tennis,” and remonstrating those who see it as a game and not a sport. There are a lot of misconceptions about what we’ll call, for the purposes of this article, table tennis after all, table tennis is an Olympic sport, played by world class athletes in pristine arenas. But it can also be played in a garage or a rec room, and it’s just as fun. Table tennis can be played with some level of proficiency almost immediately. Getting good takes only a little more time and effort. If you’re going to play at home, the first thing you need is space, at the very least roughly equivalent to a one-car garage or a good-sized rec room. Having ample clearance above and around the table is important, too, in order to fully exploit the wide variety of angles and shots at your disposal. Good, even flooring is necessary in order to keep the playing surface level. Decent light, along with protection from the elements will also optimize the playing experience.

It is one of several ITF initiatives to promote Olympic Tennis. Many past and present tennis champions along with officials from the International Olympic Committee, the British Olympic Association, the International Tennis Federation and the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games showed their support by attending the launch.
IOC member and British Olympic Association President Mr Craig Reedie said of the Club: "Olympic medallists are very special. Tennis brings many assets to the Olympics and it is good news that an international federation recognises its Olympic and Paralympic athletes in this Club."
As part of the launch each of the medallists in attendance was presented with a special pin signifying membership of the Olympic Medallists Club. Afterwards, they spoke of their pride in being a member of this elite club.

The Olympic fire was lit in Amsterdam in 1928. The Olympic torch relay was held in Berlin in 1936. Since then it has always been a vastly important part of the Olympics and symbol of the Olympic spirit. The fire of the Olympics represents holiness, sports and the pursuit for world peace which are all reflected in the Olympic spirit. Cultural activities play a very important role in the Olympics, and the two can at no time be separated. Combining sports and culture not only explores new territory for cultural development, but also makes the Olympic Games a more cultural and more attractive sports event. Only through the involvement of culture does the Olympic Games become a great event that people around the world await with great expectations.
