102. Mindat.org Mineral Messageboard - Mineral Photography
But 3D photography is rather cool. This afternoon I started my first careful steps in this field. I choose for the red/blue glasses version.

Me and gordon have been 3D-ing stuff for a while now. But i was wondering if any of you nice people can do it to. Heres a picture of some flourite, see if you can do it. The method we use alot is the cross-eye method. You can do it several ways but i think the easiest way is cross-eye. Reply To This Message Re: 3D Author: ian jones (-.server.ntli.net) Date: 04-12-04 09:30 Hi Dennis I use the "crossed eyes" method to see 3D photos without a viewer as well. It was explained in Min Record some years ago, but for anyone not knowing it - get about 6" away and cross you eyes, and the two pictures will merge into a central 3D image. Takes only a little practice, but easy once you get the hang of it.

A Data-Driven Reflectance Model
We present a generative model for isotropic bidirectional reflectance distribution functions (BRDFs) based on acquired reflectance data. Instead of using analytical reflectance models, we represent each BRDF as a dense set of measurements. This allows us to interpolate and extrapolate in the space of acquired BRDFs to create new BRDFs. We treat each acquired BRDF as a single high-dimensional vector taken from a space of all possible BRDFs. We apply both linear (subspace) and non-linear (manifold) dimensionality reduction tools in an effort to discover a lower dimensional representation that characterizes our measurements. We let users defne perceptually meaningful parametrization directions to navigate in the reduced-dimension BRDF space. On the low-dimensional manifold, movement along these directions produces novel but valid BRDFs.

Cheap 3D Scanning (for Blender)
Nicholas Phillips
I have developed some C/C++ code implementing Drs Bouguet and Perona's technique for 3D Photography on your desk . Please visit their website for details and publications. All I have done is write code based on their publications. Since at this time I don't have a digital camera or webcam, I have synthesised test images with Blender . (This has made debugging easier!) Get the source code, documentation and test .blend file here
Or just the source code: here
The test images are here This code was developed under Red Hat 7.2 Linux. I have conformed closely to standard C/C++ coding techniques, so should compile on other i.e., Microsoft, operating systems. I have made extensive use of Intel's Open Source Computer Vision Library (OpenCV). In particular, the release. The source is available here . I will assume a standard installation of this library (the include files and libraries can be automatically found by the compiler and linker). The documentation is here On to the results. First I used a simple collection of test object:
