Character
A parody of televised cooking shows , the Swedish Chef wears a toque blanche and has bushy eyebrows that completely obscure his eyes. He was one of the few Muppets to employ an actual puppeteer 's hands, originally Oz's, in the designs—that is, they were visible to the audience through his sleeves and facilitated handling food and utensils. Nearly all Swedish Chef sketches begin with him in a kitchen, waving some utensils while singing his signature song in a trademark semi-comprehensible gibberish which parodies the characteristic vowel sounds of Swedish . "Yorn desh born, der ritt de gitt der gue, Orn desh, dee born desh, de umn bork! bork! bork!". The last line of the song is always "B¸rk! B¸rk! B¸rk!", and is punctuated by him throwing the utensils over his shoulder to crash into the crockery behind. After this introduction, the Chef continues speaking gibberish while preparing a particular recipe. His commentary is spiced with the occasional

Rutabaga
Swedish Turnip Brassica rapa French: Rutabaga (rave d'automne, chou-navet)
Origin: Sweden
An edible plant of the Cruciferae family
Worldwide Recipe Etymology
From the Swedish "rotabagge" Description
The rutabaga is grown for the bulbous part of its stalk which grows underground. Once known as "chou de Siam" (Siamese cabbage) in French, the rutabaga grows in cold wet countries. It is a cross between the turnip and kale which originated in Sweden, hence its name. Nutritional values per 100 g
Calories: 36; Fat: 0.2 g; Water: 87%; Carbohydrates: 8 g; Protein: 1.2 g; Sugars: 7%. Rich in vitamin A and minerals. Buying swedes The swede should be nicely shaped, purple at the top, with a narrow smooth crown, a well-defined central taproot and a minimum of secondary roots. It should be unblemished and undamaged. Beware of buying swedes that are very light in weight: they may be hollow. Choose young vegetables. Larger ones can be tough and fibrous and have a stronger taste. Storage Keep in a cool, dark place. Refrigerate for up to 10 days. As they age, swedes dry out and soften.

and her love for cooking: My name is Isabel Brattkull , I just turned 35 and I live in Gothenburg, Sweden's second largest city. I'm an unemployed dietician hoping to get a job soon before I forget all about my 3-year university education! I've always been interested in food and cooking, very much thanks to my mom who is a wonderful cook. I was 11 years old when I started to collect recipes and since then it has just gone on and on and on. I remember loving the hearty Swedish "husmanskost" (home cooking) ever since I was a small child. I think it's important to preserve the food culture in your own country, even if I don't always post typically Swedish recipes to all my lists.
I especially like chicken recipes because you can do so much with chicken, but I love to cook everything except for

Introduction
Making your own baby food is simple, convenient, and can save you money. Nutritionally, it's hard to beat the wholesomeness of foods right from your kitchen. You can feed baby some of your family's regular foods knowing that they are free from the additives and fillers found in some store-bought baby foods. Family foods, if prepared with salt, spices, sugar, or fat, are not suitable for infants. You will need to prepare foods separately, or remove the baby's portion before salt, sugar, or other seasonings are added. Making your own baby food doesn't require a lot of expensive equipment. At a minimum, all you need to get started is a clean pot to cook in and equipment to get the foods to the right consistency.
Equipment for Pureeing Baby Foods
Following are guidelines for the equipment required to produce baby food:
  • Some foods, such as bananas and other ripe fruits, require only a fork for mashing. A potato masher also works well to puree cooked apples, winter squash, potatoes, or carrots. Be sure to remove lumps, pieces of skin, strings, or seeds before feeding to baby.

Introduction
Many of the traditional Swedish dishes are in our opinion often bordering on the inedible. Others are a little bit "special", like the Swedish pea-soup, made out of dried yellow peas, which earlier was served as dinner every Thursday during the winter season. Some recipies use ingredients that are difficult to come by outside Sweden, such as smoked heart of reindeer. The present collection includes recipies for Swedish dishes that:

    Swedish Chef With Japanese Flair
    NEW YORK, Feb. 19, 2005
Riingo Executive Chef Johan Svensson (Photo: AP/GRAYLOCK)
(CBS) The executive chef of New York's Riingo restaurant, which features Japanese and American favorites, is Swedish.
On Saturday, Johan Svensson accepts the Chef on a Shoestring challenge of preparing a delicious meal for four for a mere $40.
The menu includes Vegetable Tempura with a Chili Dipping Sauce, Grilled Mahi-Mahi with Braised Fennel, and Chocolate Pancakes with Orange Mousse.
How does a Swedish-born youngster go on to head the kitchen of a fine New York City eatery specializing in Japanese and American delights?
Svensson was born on the small Swedish island of Torsö where, as a boy, he barely passed home economics, only to pursue a culinary degree at the Culinary Institute of Gothenburg. He worked his way through several positions in the restaurant industry in his homeland as a dishwasher, waiter, and substitute chef before becoming executive sous chef at a ski resort in Northeast Sweden.
