Background: What is the swedish Law on Religious
Communities and how it was applied on Scientology

We were informed of this, through Swedish counsel, by the National Judicial Board on Friday. The official registrations were obtained Monday, March 13. The Church of Scientology of Sweden and local churches of Scientology in Gothenburg, Malmo and Stockholm are all separately registered. The registrations are made under a new law called the Act on Religious Communities, one of a series of laws that are implementing the separation of Church and State in Sweden. Ever since the 16th century, the Lutheran Church has held the privileged status of being the state Church. As of January 1, 2000, that status officially came to an end. The Lutheran Church is now known officially at the Church of Sweden, and it and the Church of Scientology are the first two religious communities to receive registration under the new Act. To give you a better understanding of this new law, section 1, 2 and 5 of the Act on Religious Communities states: "(1) There are provisions about freedom of religion in the Constitution and in the European Convention on Protection of the Human Rights and the Basic Freedoms."

Map of Sweden Banner Dag Hammarskjöld, UN Secretary-General, 1953-1961: In the Service of Peace When Dag Hammarskjöld became Secretary-General of the United Nations in April 1953, to many people he was no more than an unknown Swedish government official. But during his years at the UN he successfully expanded the roles of the UN and of its Secretary-General in world politics. Celebrating the 100th anniversary of Dag Hammarskjöld’s birth in 2005 is a way to commemorate his faith in the potential of the UN. Inspecting for improvement
In 2003 the Swedish National Agency for Education began to inspect municipal and independent schools throughout the country. This initiative was based on a government mandate stating that all activities for which local and independent school authorities are responsible will be reviewed over a six-year period. The inspectorates methods of gathering data, its focus on the review and its methods for evaluating quality will also be followed up and revised as needed. One overall goal is to design and carry out the educational inspection to ensure that every pupil in each school obtains the best possible education.
The Swedish National Agency for Education is the central administrative authority for the Swedish public school system for children, young people and adults, as well as for preschool activities and child care for school children. The role of the National Agency for Education in the Swedish education system is to define goals in order to administrate, to inform in order to influence and to review in order to improve. The National Agency for Education audits preschool activities, care for school children, schools and adult education in many different ways.

Permanent Representation of Sweden to the European Union
- an extended arm of government in Brussels
Swedens Permanent Representation to the European Union in Brussels is an extended arm of the Swedish Government. Its main task is to ensure that Swedish interests and policies are pursued as effectively as possible in the EU.
The Permanent Representation has some 110 employees and is Swedens largest mission abroad. Headed by Sven-Olof Petersson, Swedens Special Ambassador to the EU, it functions as a miniature version of the Government Offices in Stockholm, representing all the home ministries.
An important task of the Permanent Representation is to supply analyses and assessment to the Swedish Government Offices, which are responsible for shaping EU policies. The Representation also acts as the Swedish Governments day-to-day communication link with the EU institutions.

rank candidates they see last better than those they see first . Thus, it is a bias in any process where judges see one contestant after another, and award points consecutively. This applies to competitions like figure skating. If contestants are all of a high standard, as in the figure-skating championships, any unique features will probably be considered positive, and the contestant will seem better than previous ones. "You ask yourself, did the last one have this neat new thing?" Bruine de Bruin explains. However, the question is if the same effect also applies to competions like the Eurovision Song Contest, which cannot be descrived as "high standard." American readers who have been lucky enough to avoid this spectacle of eurojunkpop, can think of it as a competition where the Ashlee Simpsons of all European countries (and some Middle East) compete by singing new, dreadful pop songs. To be fair, sometimes artists with some talent manage to turn up, but it's not worth the risks to wait for that to happen. Of course, one might question whether the Eurovision Song Contest is an event in which all the contestants are of an impeccable standard. And Dan Ariely, a decision scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, warns that although the positive unique features in each performance may push scores up in skilled competitions, other situations are rife with negative features, and so scores may well slide downhill over the sequence.
