Tibetan Delegation in Sweden for Culture Exchanges
A Tibet an delegation from China gave a lecture and held a photo exhibition in the southern Swedish city of Lund on Wednesday to help local people understand Tibet's religion and its economic status quo.
Drubkang Tubdenkedrup, a Living Buddha from Tibet's Sherteng Temple, gave a lecture in Lund University, specifying the Chinese government's policy of protecting religious freedoms in Tibet.
Religious freedoms have taken root in the Tibet Autonomous Region since China began economic reform in the late 1970s, said Drubkang. As evidence, all religions and religious sects are respected and protected; religious believers and non-believers are treated as equals, he said. The Living Buddha also said the central and local governments have done a lot to protect religious freedoms, including the refurbishment of temples, proper arrangements for patriotic personages of Tibet's religious circles, the establishment of Buddhist colleges and the opening of Buddhist courses in temples, and the restoration of Buddhist services and festivals. During the lecture, Drubkang and Tsering Drolkar, head of the delegation and vice chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region, answered questions related to Tibetan religions and culture.

To the North!: Five Swedish Poets of the Nineteenth Century Selected Poems of August Strindberg “Barton is, I think it is safe to say, the most respected historian concentrating on Scandinavian issues currently active in the United States and . . . [his] breadth of knowledge is on display in the current volume, which focuses on the political and cultural impact of the union between Sweden and Norway. Though Sweden was the politically dominant partner in the union, Barton argues convincingly that for much of the nineteenth century, the cultural influence was primarily in the other direction.” —Rochelle Wright, author of The Visible Wall: Jews and Other Ethnic Outsiders in Swedish Film “Barton does an excellent job drawing on material in Swedish, Norwegian, and English relating to the exchange of ideas between Sweden and Norway during the period of the Union [1814–1905]. He makes accessible to English-speaking readers a vast array of material in politics and culture and helps illuminate the complex relationship between Sweden and Norway in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. . . .
