http://www.isealalliance.org/sasa/
Social Accountability in Sustainable Agriculture (SASA) was a collaborative project of FLO SAI SAN and IFOAM , four main social and environmental verification systems in sustainable agriculture. The SASA objectives were to improve social auditing processes in agriculture and to foster closer cooperation and shared learning between the participating initiatives.
SASA Project sucessfully completed
The SASA project has now been completed with the convening of a final results conference in mid-April 2004 and the completion of final reports outlining project outcomes. With the completion of the project the website has been reorganised. The participating SASA organisations would like to express their gratitude to the project funders , and look forward to progressing the outcomes of the project.
Outcomes of the final SASA conference
The final SASA conference took place at the FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy on the 20th and 21st of April 2004. Around 150 people from all over the world attended the event, representing traders, retailers, NGOs, certification bodies, producer groups and others. Highlights of the presentations made included SASA project results with recommendations on social standards and auditing methodologies, convergence possibilities and access for smallholders. Workshops allowed participants and stakeholders to explore SASA outcomes in detail.

sustainable agriculture and organic farming volunteer abroad program in Tanzania,Africa.
http://www.globalservicecorps.org/tanzania/agriculture.html
Tanzania Sustainable Agriculture Program
The Sustainable Agriculture program in Tanzania offers participants opportunities to learn about organic farming methods while living with local families . Volunteers work with Tanzanian community groups, farmers and non-governmental organizations to initiate small-scale organic agriculture projects in the Arusha region. Participants first learn and then educate community members about sustainable small-scale farming. Volunteers and locals then work together to create organic farming plots. Sustainable Agriculture participants also work in collaboration with the GSC Tanzania HIV/AIDS Program participants to educate HIV/AIDS victims, their families and orphans about organic small-scale farming. They create organic mini-farms to benefit these members of the community as an environmentally sustainable source of immune system-building fruits and vegetables and a viable source of income. GSC promotes biointensive agriculture (BIA), a specialized form of organic agriculture involving the use of double-dug beds, locally available crops, organic compost materials, crop diversification, intensive planting, and water harvesting. Biointensive agriculture is a much more viable option for small-scale farmers than is large-scale farming, which requires expensive chemicals, fertilizers and machinery.
