An Introduction to Japanese Input Systems

VACS Corporation's Japanese input system VJE-Delta Ver. 2.5 has been loaded onto the newly marketed B-right/V [operating system]. For that reason, we had a person at VACS contribute a general outline of Japanese input systems.
There are approximately 2,000 Chinese characters ( kanji ) even just for the characters on the Jooyoo kanji [commonly used kanji ] table the nation decided on as the "standard of kanji usage for expressing in writing the national language of today in general social life." There are approximately 50,000 characters in the K'ang-hsi Dictionary that was compiled on the basis of an imperial command of Ch'ing Emperor K'ang-hsi [of China]. If we furthermore include kokuji created in Japan, variant characters, and nonstandard characters, kanji are a mysterious character system of which we do not know just how many there are. When we compare this with alphabets (even if the difference in origin called phonetic characters and ideographic characters is ignored), this overwhelming difference of quantity is not something that could simply be called the quantity of the number of characters, rather it would be safer to say it is a difference in quality. From ancient times, the Japanese people did not have indigenous characters, so they imported

Establishing the neutrino mass hierarchy is one of the fundamental questions that will have to be addressed in the next future. Its determination could be obtained with long-baseline experiments but typically suffers from degeneracies with other neutrino parameters. We consider here the NOvA experiment configuration and propose to place a second off-axis detector, with a shorter baseline, such that, by exploiting matter effects, the type of neutrino mass hierarchy could be determined with only the neutrino run. We show that the determination of this parameter is free of degeneracies, provided the ratio L/E, where L the baseline and E is the neutrino energy, is the same for both detectors.

    Super-nova pre-dinner/party June 23
06:15 JST Joi's Diary I'm going to try to help plan a dinner/party that I can't attend. David Beckemeyer et al to are working on Heckelbot so I can be there virtually. The dinner/party is scheduled for June 23, the day before Supernova 2004 at the Westin in Santa Clara. I ALWAYS go to Supernova, but this year I just can't make it since I have to be in Tokyo for a shareholders meeting. Here a wiki page for the planning. Speaking of Supernova, I'm hoping I will be able to participate in the conference via rigged Hecklebot as well. Stay tuned for more on this. ;-) Comments (3) TrackBack (1) Technorati

    Birth of a Supernova
    by Rick Groleau
Ever since Edwin Hubble's 1929 discovery that the universe is expanding, astronomers have known that the more distant a galaxy, the faster it's traveling away from us. They've long wondered to what degree gravity is slowing down that expansion rate. If gravity is weak, the universe would expand forever; if gravity is strong enough, the universe would eventually stop expanding and then fall back in on itself.
Well, to the surprise of almost everyone, the evidence presented by astronomers in the NOVA program "Runaway Universe" shows that the expansion rate is not slowing down at all, but rather accelerating.
Their discovery would not have been possible without a special cosmic yardstick exploding stars, or supernovae specifically the variety known as Type Ia. Because Type Ia supernovae are visible over distances of five billion light-years and more, astronomers can observe them and gauge the distances to the galaxies they reside in, for the simple reason that Type Ia's shine with a known brightness.
What makes each Type Ia burn with the same brightness? And why don't other kinds of supernovae shine with equal brightness? Here, based on the latest thinking, are step-by-step explanations of the two most common types of supernovae: Type Ia, which takes place in two-star systems, and Type II, which occurs when a massive star runs out of its fuel and blows up.

Explanation: The Crab Nebula , filled with mysterious filaments, is the result of a star that was seen to explode in 1054 AD . This spectacular supernova explosion was recorded by Chinese and (quite probably) Anasazi Indian astronomers. The filaments are mysterious because they appear to have less mass than expelled in the original supernova and higher speed than expected from a free explosion . In the above picture taken recently from a Very Large Telescope , the color indicates what is happening to the electrons in different parts of the Crab Nebula . Red indicates the electrons are recombining with protons to form neutral hydrogen , while blue indicates the electrons are whirling around the magnetic field of the inner nebula . In the nebula 's very center lies a pulsar : a neutron star rotating, in this case, 30 times a second.

On June 20-22, 2005, over 300 prominent technologists, investors, business leaders and media came together at Supernova 2005 to network, share ideas, and explore the business impacts of key innovations.
The Supernova conference focuses on the decentralization of computing, communications, digital media, and business. Increasingly powerful devices, coupled with increasingly pervasive network s are changing the way we work, live, and play. Supernova distills what those trends mean for you and your organization. Produced in partnership with The Wharton School it uniquely links technology vision with practical business focus. Dates and venue for Supernova 2006 will be announced soon. Subscribe to our Supernova Report email list for periodic updates and analysis.
    2005 Theme: Connecting Worlds
    Through Connected Platforms
In a decentralized world, the network itself is the platform for commerce, social interaction, work and entertainment. At Supernova, we explore the next generation of connected technologies in social and business contexts. Supernova 2005 topics included: distributed e-commerce mobile applications the new power of the "long tail" in commerce and media massively multiplayer virtual worlds business blogging

About Supernova Register Community Connection Weblog ...

"I put together the first Supernova conference three years ago because, to paraphrase Bob Dylan, we all knew something was happening here, but we didn't know what it was. My conviction was that underneath all the changes - business becoming increasingly distributed, users becoming more knowledgeable, old industry models collapsing, and everything and everybody becoming networked - is one fundamental phenomenon: decentralization
At Supernova, we bring together business, government, and technology thought leaders to understand how decentralization and pervasive connectivity are changing our world."
    -Kevin Werbach, Host of Supernova
    Why focus on decentralization?
Business, technology, and social interactions are decentralizing, tearing apart industries with the force of a supernova. Intelligence is moving to the edges, through networked computers, empowered users, fluid digital content, distributed work teams, and powerful communications devices. Business models are under pressure as end-users gain greater control, computing becomes a commodity, and companies collaborate across geographic boundaries. At the same time, new opportunities are emerging through social software, pervasive wireless networking, massively multi-player virtual worlds, and distributed e-commerce, among other trends.
