The aircraft version, officially called ASM-MMS and apparently also Kh-4, is intended specially for Su-27K (Su-33) carrier-based fighter aircraft. It was for the first time shown to the CIS leaders in February 1992 in Machulishche and then to the public in August 1992 at the Moscow Air Show in Zhukovskiy. The missile is propelled by a dual (rocket-jet) engine operating by the same principle as the Kh-31 engine. The missile, suspended under the aircraft, has a folding wing. The missile is guided by an autopilot during the initial fight stage, with possible correction by the aircraft pilot, and by active radar during the final flight stage.

The amount of sun exposure required to produce a burn varies with each person's pigmentation and ability to produce more melanin. Sunburn results in painful reddened skin. Severe sunburn may produce swelling and blisters. Symptoms may begin as soon as 1 hour after exposure and typically reach their peak after 1 day. Some severely sunburned people develop a fever, chills, and weakness and on rare occasions even may go into shock (characterized by very low blood pressure, fainting, and profound weakness). Several days after a sunburn, people with naturally fair skin may have peeling in the burned area, usually accompanied by itching. These peeled areas are even more sensitive to sunburn for several weeks. People who have had severe sunburns when young are at greater risk of skin cancer in later years even if they have not had long-term sun exposure.

hot shower for sunburn
A friend gave me some great advice about sunburns. She said I should take a hot shower with the water as hot as I could stand it. I hadn't heard of this before, and it just sounded painful. And it was. But it worked! The hot shower took the constant sting out of the burn, and it's been much better since. Who knew? (I'm guessing you shouldn't try this for very serious burns, I'm not a doctor, YMMV, etc, etc.) [12:04 PM] Commenting Is Closed This post is closed to new comments.

New bikini will stop sunburn
From: Agence France-Presse From correspondents in London
August 11, 2005 A BIKINI which bleeps every 15 minutes to prevent holidaymakers from sleeping in the sun is to be shown off in Britain today. The invention could stop the traditional ghastly seaside sight of bright-red Britons on beaches across the world. New Look, Britain's third-biggest women's clothes retailer, was to launch the Tan-Timer Bikini on Brighton beach on the south coast. About 59 per cent of Britons admit to nodding off in the sun, so the electronic device, which attaches to the swimsuit, bleeps every quarter of an hour to remind dozy Brits to wake up and seek shade or roll over to toast the other side. The bikini is to hit stores across the country next week. "As well as the health implication of over-exposing your skin to the sun, burnt or peeling skin is not a good look for the image-conscious," New Look's marketing director, Hash Ladha, said.

Facts About Sunburn
Did you know? Exposure to the sun during daily activities and play causes the most sun damage. Overexposure to sunlight before age 18 is most damaging to the skin.
What is sunburn?
Sunburn is a visible reaction of the skin's exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, the invisible rays that are part of sunlight. Ultraviolet rays can also cause invisible damage to the skin. Excessive and/or multiple sunburns cause premature aging of the skin and lead to skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the US and exposure to the sun is the leading cause of skin cancer. Children often spend a good part of their day playing outdoors in the sun, especially during the summer. Children who have fair skin, moles, or freckles, or who have a family history of skin cancer, are more likely to develop skin cancer in later years.

The Sunburn Gene
You've probably all heard about the genes that cause cancer and other diseases and if you haven't heard about those genes you've probably heard about the ones popularized by Levi Strauss. But now scientists in England have just found the gene that causes sunburn. As a bonus, this gene also tends to give people red hair. How does this gene work? Apparently this gene plays a key role in the body's production of pigment called melanin which is found in hair and skin. Melanin comes in a brown-black form that protects against sunburn by allowing suntanning, and a yellow-red form that may contribute to sunburn. The yellow-red form is most often found in the hair and skin of people with red hair. In a study of 75 people the scientists found that the more sunburn-prone a person's skin, the more likely they were to have a variant version of the gene that preferentially produces the yellow-red melanin. And variants were much more common in people with light red or deep red hair than in blonds, brunettes or those with black hair. Now you don't need a molecular geneticist to tell you that you're a red-head, but if you do sunburn easily you should go out and get some Aligator Skin 50 SPF sunblock because overexposure to the sun's harmful UV rays can induce DNA mutations in skin cells and that spells C A N C E R.

FORECASTS FOR SUN SAFETY
Predictions of ultraviolet radiation help the
campaign against skin cancer
This year, almost 300,000 Australians will visit a doctor or specialist to have a skin cancer (or cancers) removed. Sunburn caused by overexposure to ultraviolet-B (UVB) radiation is known to be the primary cause of skin cancer. To help people choose appropriate levels of protection against skin cancer, the Bureau of Meteorology issues daily forecasts of the UV Index. UV Index forecasts are issued as a map of Australia, a numerical value with descriptive category, and as a graph, for capital cities and towns across Australia. The map, text and graphical forecasts are available via the Bureau's website. The mass media also receive text forecasts along with other Bureau services.
Commencing December 2002, the Bureau of Meteorology, Cancer Council Australia and Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) adopted the World Health Organisation Global Solar UV Index, for reporting the level of solar UV danger in Australia. The progressive adoption of the Global UV Index by other countries will heighten the awareness of the sun safety message for tourists and residents alike.
About ultraviolet radiation
The sun emits three types of ultraviolet radiation – UVA, UVB and UVC. UVA penetrates deep into the skin causing damage like wrinkles and discolouration. Exposure to UVB causes sunburn, a skin reaction where blood vessels expand and leak fluids, producing inflammation, pain and redness. Sunburn, whether severe or mild, can cause permanent and irreversible skin damage. Cumulative exposure to UV radiation and the number of severe sunburns received, especially during childhood, increases the risk of developing skin cancer.

Q - T "I DO NOT SNORE", says the snorer to their significant other, then the significant other tape records you snoring one night and plays the incriminating evidence against you. At first you think it's some wild animal that escaped from the local zoo, but soon you come to the realization, after saying a million times, "That's not me, is it?" well, you come to the realization that you snore. So here are some cures:
  • Losing some weight reduces snoring. So get on that diet!
  • Alcohol is another no no, because it loosens the muscles and makes snoring worst.
  • Sleep on your side, it makes the snoring a little lower.
  • Have your doctor order you a cervical collar, it may reduce the snoring sound.
  • Apnea, if you have snoring and you stop breathing for a bit, you may have this serious condition called, Apnea. So visit your doctor!
    • Sore Throat
Here are a few tips to get rid of the common sore throat:
  • Eat garlic, yes, if you've read any of the other cures on this website you'll find that garlic is the leading treatment to many problems. It is because Garlic contains a antiviral and antibacterial agent. So eat your garlic, it's good for you. You can also get garlic pills, but I prefer the fresh garlic.

    Prevention
Prevention is the best remedy here, if you can. Long-term results from excessive exposure to the sun, such as skin cancer and wrinkled skin, can be avoided with proper precautions. One of the best preventatives is to use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 that offers protection against both UVA and UVB rays. You can get as much sun sightseeing as baking at the beach, so use sunscreen whenever you are outdoors. Use an aloe vera lotion containing a sunblock. This will cut out 90% of the burning rays and allow 75% of the tanning rays to reach the skin. To speed healing take the following supplements for a few days after getting burned: 1,000 mg of vitamin C, 400 I.U. of vitamin E, 15 mg of beta carotene, and 1-2 tablespoons (or about 3 capsules per teaspoon) of flaxseed oil, an essential fatty acid. Caution: don't ever cover a sunburn that is blistered or open with an ointment, oil, salve or butter, for it will make the area susceptible to infection.
    Remedies
    Folk
Aloe Take as many leaves as necessary from an aloe plant; refrigerate; peel off top layer of leaves; apply the side of the leaf with flesh exposed directly to the sunburn. Other remedies use aloe vera juice: for mild to medium sunburn, keep the affected area moist with aloe vera juice. Repeat frequently. This will reduce the pain and the amount of peeling. Aloe vera ointment works well, too, as it contains oil and will not evaporate. For a severe sunburn, keep the area moist at all times with aloe vera juice. Since aloe vera is an astringent, you may want to use aloe vera ointment or some sort of oil, such as olive or baby. Aloe is very effective in relieving pain and inflammation.
