About the Program
What is the Harvard Green Campus Student Internship Program?
Since the summer of 2001, over 20 student interns have been employed, trained and managed through the HGCI, working on a wide range of campus environmental projects. The student internship program has been leveraged by the HGCI to secure ongoing funding for a number of new full or part-time positions to work on a range of Green Campus programs. A number of student interns have been recruited by the HGCI to fill a number of new positions. Every summer the HGCI secures engagement from a number of departments and schools willing to sponsor a student internship project for the summer. Student internships are only possible if schools and departments fund them. Harvard summer interns are employed for 10-12 weeks, June-September, 35hr/wk ($12-18/hr) to work with the HGCI and associated sponsors to research and develop new environmentally preferred, cost effective approaches to campus operations. The intern provides his or hersponsoring school/department with 400 hours of research time, and is further supported by the HGCI with 200 hours of project management, administration and web support time.

Student Intern Program At Casey Trees, paid student internships are offered each summer for high school students and for college students or recent graduates. Most work is outdoors caring for young trees, conducting inventories of existing trees, and communicating with residents about the importance of trees to our city, our neighborhoods, and to each one of us. High school interns, all residents of Washington, DC, work in teams led by college students with backgrounds in forestry, landscape architecture, community organizing, or related fields. The students work hard weeding, mulching, and watering trees and must be willing to endure full days of outdoor work, sometimes in rain or high heat. The program provides training in tree identification and maintenance, and about the importance of trees to community well-being; reinforcement of a strong work ethic; and opportunities to work with other students, professionals, and community volunteers. High school student internships are being offered with stipens of $1650 for the 6-week program. We will also offer several college interships this summer. Follow the links in the right column for details on our intership opportunities.

    Student Internships at the FCC
The Federal Communications Commission offers legal and non-legal internship opportunities throughout the year. Internships provide opportunities for interested students to increase their knowledge of the issues and technologies that are shaping the telecommunications market, while at the same time providing invaluable support to the Commission. The FCC is always looking for bright and motivated students who want to participate in one of our many programs and gain valuable experience with a federal agency. Unless specifically indicated otherwise, all internships are unpaid. However, internships at the FCC may qualify for academic credit from a home institution. While the positions are typically in the legal, economic or engineering disciplines, the various offices and bureaus may have positions in other disciplines available. Internships are arranged by the individual bureaus and offices of the Commission on a part- or full-time basis. Many of the bureaus and offices offer internship opportunities throughout the school year in addition to the traditional summer program. Each bureau and office independently determines the number of positions, timeframes, and tasks assigned to their respective internship positions.

Internships are a strategic part of the career management process. Many students depend upon internships to fine-tune their skills and make important corporate contacts. Students can participate in internships in either Track 1 or Track 2, after successful completion of the first trimester. Students must return to Thunderbird for at least one trimester after an internship in order to relate the practical experience to their educational goals. Internships may be one or two trimesters in duration, which extends the length of the program by that amount of time.
Internships, both within and outside the U.S., provide students with a practical application of their global business education. Approximately 40 percent of T-bird interns are offered employment by their host companies.
