While his passion continues to be surfing, Biker always excelled in sports most popularly referred to as "extreme", including skateboarding (since age 11), snowboarding, downhill skateboard racing, mountain biking, motorcross, wakeboarding, water-skiing and mountainboarding. Fee Range: Please contact us for fee info
In October 1995, a friend introduced Biker Sherlock to street luging and he was immediately hooked. By June 1996, only 8 months after taking up the sport, Biker competed in the ESPN X-Games, his first professional race, and won gold, shocking fellow lugers and rocking the downhill racing world! He is the most decorated downhill skateboard and street luge athlete in the history of the ESPN X-Games (4 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze) and NBC Gravity Games (2 gold, 3 silver). In 1998 Biker landed a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most gold medals won at the ESPN X-Games.

The Extreme
Summary:
The Australian summer EXTREME GAMES are being held this weekend, comprising a range of sports invented within just the last ten years.
Sports like street luge, skysurfing and wakeboarding seek to defy the elements of earth, air and water. The attitude around them is rebellious, and youth oriented. And extreme sports appeal to young people precisely because their parents have never been involved.
But are extreme sports genuine expressions of free-spirited youth culture, or are they just as commercialised and media-driven as mainstream sports?

Amanda Smith: The Sports Factor this week is X-rated. ‘X’ for Extreme, extreme sports, extreme games, extreme lifestyles.
The 4th Australian, Summer, Extreme Games are being held this weekend. The site for them is the hard-edged, industrial landscape of Melbourne’s Docklands, in the shadow of the city skyline and the Colonial Stadium. Although the kinds of sports at these Extreme Games bear little relation to what goes on at the nearby stadium. Unlike the century-and-a-half history of Australian Football, most extreme sports have only been invented within the last decade. The first Extreme Games were held in the United States in 1995, they’re now becoming something of a global, and globalised, phenomenon. Damien Bray is the Director of Planet X, organisers of these Australian Extreme Games. Damien Bray: The format for Extreme Games has become fairly generic around the world in that it consists of sports such as skateboarding, weight-boarding, inline skate, BMX, motocross, street luge? and sky surfing. They’re kind of standard ones and all of those sports now have their own individual structures worldwide in terms of competition formats. Once a year in several countries they come together as one for the Extreme Games, so this event’s been happening down here for the last four years, and there’s a similar event that’s been going on in the US. We’re actually picking up with some new events, launching into London next year as well as China. So certainly it is becoming quite a global thing, it’s become quite popular.

Choose a film here Celluloid Closet The Times of Harvey Milk Where Are We? Common Threads Paragraph 175 XTREME:Sports to Die For Twenty-something street lugers Sean Mallard and Wade Sokol would do anything for each other based on a bond built racing street luges 60 miles an hour, elbow-to-elbow, and two inches from the speed-blurred pavement. Along with a wildly glib band of fellow street lugers, Sean and Wade attempt to stay on top as they navigate a dangerous luge race circuit for a ticket to the X Games. Intense and philosophical, 22-year-old skysurfer Sean MacCormac spins through the air falling over 200 miles per hour in what he bluntly calls "human body flight." On the ground, he criss-crosses the country in a motor home to chase the best skydiving and deals with the reality of a bad year for skysurfing accidents. Xtreme: Sports to Die For is a rare documentary action film that takes viewers inside a rapidly growing and frenetic world of risk, rebellion and camaraderie, and asks why some are so willing to put their bodies on the line. In the gritty, painful world of dirt bike stunt riding, the speed-obsessed, gutsy brotherhood of street luge, and the spiritual intensity of skysurfing, we ask why these often thoughtful young people put themselves at riskeven at times flirting with deathas they try to create meaning in their lives.

Street luge competitor J. Robert Bethae hurtles down McLaren Park's John F. Shelley Drive at last weekend's Gravity Games
By Paul McHugh
CHRONICLE OUTDOORS WRITER The International Gravity Sports Association knows how to bring a storm to San Francisco. It seems all the group has to do is schedule an event. They were nearly rained out at the first IGSA San Francisco Gravity Festival last May. This year's sequel seemed threatened with a similar fate. But enough sunshine peeped past clouds last weekend to let experts in street luge, downhill skateboard (with standing and lay-down divisions), downhill inline skates and gravity bike (in two divisions) plunge down a twisty kilometer of pavement in Mclaren Park. "Racers take your mark. . . Get ready . . . Go!" bawled the starter, as up to eight lugers at a time launched wheeled sleds. They hit speeds surpassing 50 mph while jousting for position through the turns. Gravity sports are both egalitarian and ecologically sound. They're egalitarian mostly because they're relatively cheap. Also, events can be easily mounted in an urban setting. They are environmentally good because these wheeled rigs are emission-free - their pilots push them from a start line, then gravity takes over.

Popularized by programs such as ESPN's X-Games, extreme sports such as street luge, downhill skateboarding and the likes have been beamed into the living rooms of millions of television viewer's world wide over the last couple of years. Jarret "Dr. GoFast" Ewanek is a veteran ESPN X-Games street luge competitor. Dr. GoFast, a degreed Aerospace Engineer and owner of Dr. GoFast's hi speed gear is not only a top ranked street luge racer, but also indisputably the king of extreme sports technology. Pushing the desktop engineering envelope to the max, Ewanek accomplished a very brave and rewarding task using leading edge CAE technology.
It was at the 1998 Red Bull Streets of San Francisco street luge race that Ewanek amazed all in attendance by debuting his latest technological piece of wizardry and then going on to dominate the competition. Never before in the 20 year history of the sport has anybody been able to successfully design and build a full function rear suspension system for a street luge.
Although the suspension system that Ewanek used had hundreds of hours of design, simulation and testing, it had never seen the pavement prior to the first practice run of the day.

illustrations by RICHARD SUICIDE Spring has arrived, which means it's time to shed your warm layer of subcutaneous blubber and get your hard-flowing blood blasting past your cholesterol build-ups. This could be done in many ways but possibly none more stimulating than by launching oneself into the many lesser-known but no-less-loved sports that seem increasingly popular on (and off) the island. From the bucolic ball tossing of pétanque to the breakneck speed of street luge, the Mirror tells you how to go about navigating your choice of obscure or novelty sports in this handy guide. Street luge For those with a desire to enjoy the second most exciting activity you can possibly experience while lying on your back, it's a strictly do-it-yourself affair. Buy a board off the Net or build a makeshift one and then find a hill - at least that's what our small group of street lugers have done. "You're lying five centimetres from the ground, you push really hard with your hands and you feel the whoosh in your ears. As you reach the first curve, you put your arm over to the side and you feel the acceleration. It's really exciting," says Louis-Etienne "Bob" Bouchard, the Montreal resident of the Three Bobs, a Quebec City-based street luge team that's helping popularize the sport here. The trio have been known to descend suburban streets in the middle of the night, legally, they think. "Cops will stop you if they get complaints from residents but it seems there's no specific law banning it," says Bob.

This posting is to warn all streetlugers in the Calgary area that use Hwy 66, west of Bragg Creek. I received a call earlier this week from a unfortunate soul who became a victim of the new tax grab. The park wardens issued him a $450.00 stunting ticket, and confiscated his luge. Be very careful and be aware of the new fines. I'll try and follow-up with the results of his court appearance.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Street luge is an extreme gravity-powered activity that involves riding a street luge board (sometimes referred to as a sled) down a paved road or course. History
Street luge was born in Southern California as downhill skateboarders found they could reach faster speeds by lying down on their skateboards. This early form of the sport is now referred to as "classic style" or "butt boarding". In the first professional race was held at Signal Hill, California and hosted by the U.S. Skateboard Association. The race winner was based on top speed. The boards used in this race varied from basic skateboards to complex skate cars in which the rider was completely enclosed by plastic or fiberglass . The sport was not commonly referred to as street luge at this time but the term luge was used to describe some participants riding position. Most contestants were standing up however an opening in the rules enabled riders to choose their on board position - including prone. By , repeated injuries to both riders and spectators halted the races at Signal Hill.
