Dear Students and Parents:
Here is information regarding this year's PSAT, SAT and ACT tests. You should be able to obtain registration bulletins from a local high school, community college or a public library. If you cannot obtain the form for some reason, please call Seton and we will be able to supply one to you. The registration bulletins list the centers and the dates; please check them for the center most convenient for you. Also, please use the Seton CEEB code number ONLY for the SAT and ACT. This code number is: 470 902. It is important for Juniors (11th graders) to take the PSAT test, as there are scholarship opportunities based on the results. Most notably, the National Merit Scholarship program uses the PSAT as their benchmark. Current PSAT test dates, as well as other important information, may be found on the College Board Web site at http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/psat/about.html . Ask a local high school for registration. For the PSAT, it is very important that you DO NOT USE the Seton school code. Please use the state code provided for home schoolers listed at the end of this notice. It is important to use this code because home school students should be compared for scholarship purposes with others from their own states. Current SAT test dates and other information may be found at http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/sat/about.html

The following provides general information on the types of testing offered throughout high school. MCAS - MASSACHUSETTS COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT SYSTEM What is the MCAS? Under the 1993 Education Reform Act, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts was given the authority to establish curriculum frameworks in English, mathematics, and other core subjects. The MCAS is a state-mandated test sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Education that measures these state-wide academic standards. All full-time high school students are required to take and pass the English Language Arts and the Mathematics exam to qualify for a high school diploma.

Proficiency Test
This test was developed for all Michigan high school students to replace the MEAP Test. It is a four part test that measures basic skills in math, science, reading, and writing.
PSAT
This test is a good indicator of how a student will perform on the SAT or ACT. If a student scores in the top 2% they may be recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Foundation. This is a very impressive honor that may lead to many scholarship opportunities. Find out more about the PSAT at College board PSAT.
SAT and ACT
All colleges require either the SAT or ACT. The ACT test is commonly taken by all college bound students in the spring of their junior year. Students may take these tests as many times as they want, and colleges will generally use their highest score. These tests are important, and should be studied for.

Frequently Asked Questions by Students and Parents: ACT AP MEAP PSAT ... TOEFL
Can I take the test more than once? Yes you can. Most schools will accept your highest score on either test, regardless of how many times you took it.
Some experts, however suggest that after 3-5 times, your score is not likely to increase significantly. Taking the PSAT/NMSQT to prepare for the SAT and the PACT to prepare for the ACT are also helpful as they provide a predicted score range and may show you areas of personal strengths and weaknesses.
Start at least during your junior year. This gives you time to improve on any weak areas and give the schools you are interested in the opportunity to start sending you materials.
ACT statistics show that 77% of students' scores stayed the same or went up after re-testing, so there is little reason not to retake the test.
Statistics for the SAT were not found. How long do the tests take? Both the ACT and SAT include about three hours of testing, although with a break in the middle and time between sections, you will likely be at the testing center a little over four hours. What can I do to prepare for the tests?
