MPI
stands for Message Passing Interface and is the standard for message passing as defined by the MPI-Forum . Message Passing with MPI is the major programming model on large distributed-memory systems in high-performance computing. MPI on the Hitachi SR8000 conforms mostly to the MPI-2 standard. Detailed information about the conformance should be available soon at the MPI imlementation list OpenMP is dedicated to shared memory systems. The High Performance Fortran ( HPF ) is a programming model suitable for data-parallel problems. With Compas, the compiler automatically vectorizes the code by using all CPUs of a node to execute loop in parallel. This page shows optimized commands for compiling and running of applications in 7 parallel and scalar programming models. The first section presents a summary . The next section shows each programming model in detail Cross compilation and parallel compilation may speed up your compilation process. For MPI programs, the green lines in the tables below must be used for cross compilation. The last section discusses debugging, profiling and other options

The story was simple: one of my superiors decided to take advantage of the resource represented by the brainpower of a few would-be engineers who were serving their mandatory one year in the Army before heading to University. I not only supposedly had the brainpower, I also had the right contacts; in particular, I had friends who were able to loan me an SR-60 desktop calculator that I took with me to the barracks on several occasions. It is for this reason alone that I decided to include an SR-60 in my collection; generally, my interest is confined to portable, battery-operated programmables, and portable the SR-60 most enthusiastically isn't!

SR News: Trojans and other threats to your PC
IS YOUR DATA SAFE?
Trojans have been vastly overhyped as a threat but trojans certainly are a threat that must be considered. Unlike viruses, trojans can't replicate on your PC so are Trojans really a serious threat? We have some suggestions here that can help protect you from losing hours (or months) of work on your PC. We have an article on the recent AOL 4 (Trojan) hoax ( The AOL FOUR Hoax ). This (trojan) hoax made the claim that version four of the AOL software would introduce a macro virus or trojan into your system. This was a hoax pure fiction, but... there's no reason why any piece of software you run on your system couldn't do this. A few months ago, we covered a different AOL hoax (that you would get a virus via email) and the AOL trojan (which isn't a hoaxthe AOL trojan exists). To read about this visit: our list of current hoaxes.
IS THERE SOMETHING HERE TO WORRY ABOUT?
Yes, there is an AOL Trojan (this trojan is hardly a serious threat though) This AOL trojan will corrupt your Windows software and attempt to steal your password (see The AOL 4 Free Hoax ) but this isn't what should concern you. Everything described in the AOL 4 hoax could happen but the threat isn't limited to some exotic new software; it could happen with any piece of software that you install or any MS Word document that you load into Word. Yes, there is something to be concerned about but it's not the AOL trojans or browsing the internet. These hoaxes and trojans expose two real threats that you should consider protecting yourself against:

Home Museum Wanted Specs ... Next Texas Instruments SR-60 Programmable Scientific Desktop Calculator Updated 5/27/2001 The Texas Instruments SR-60 is unique among TI's successful line of electronic calculating machines. In the mid-to-late '70's, TI traditionally kept themselves involved in being highly competitive in the handheld calculator market, including very capable handheld programmable calculators to compete with Hewlett Packard's handhelds. During those years, TI also had a successful line of 'basic' and business-oriented desktop calculators, but generally, TI tended to stay out of the high-end programmable desktop calculator market, which was dominated by Hewlett Packard. Along with this, during the late '70's, the advances in IC technology had effectively made the differences in capabilities and capacity between handheld and traditional desktop calculators a moot point, and desktop calculators were becoming more and more like computers, with the HP 9825 as an example from this era. The SR-60 was a machine that broke all of the rules...a machine built at a time when the market for such machines was dramatically changing, and in a general area outsite of the strengths of its maker. This is part of the reason why the SR-60 is rather hard to find today. TI SR-60 Insides The SR-60 was introduced in early 1976, with this particular machine likely built in the mid-1977 timeframe. IC's in the machine have date codes ranging from as early as the 4th week in 1976, through the 6th week in 1977.
