Welcome to the home page of Folk Dance Association . Since 1970, we've helped both newcomers and experienced dancers find places to do folk dance, contra dance, square dance, Balkan dance, ballroom dance, cajun dance, clog dance, English country dance, international dance, Israeli dance, Scottish country dance, swing dance, vintage dance, zydeco dance and all other types of traditional dance and ethnic dance as a rewarding hobby, as an excellent way to keep fit, as a great way to make new friends and as a recreation for the entire family. We've also helped folk dancers find places to dance during trips and advertise folk dance events and folk dance services. We publish this on-line directory of folk dance groups, folk dance events and folk dance activities in the US and Canada. The four building blocks of Folk Dance Association are: The Calendar The Directory The Library and The Bureau The Calendar consists of 47 web pages listing over a thousand camps, cruises, festivals, teachers, tours, vendors, weekends and workshops.     A B C ... XYZ Square dancing is not native only to the United States, there are importation's from the British Isles. The Square dance is a modern term ( ) to describe Country or Contra dances Contredanse Anglais ) of the past such as Lancers and, Quadrilles Basse and Hautes dances, Circle dances, String dances, Longways, and Reels Cotillions Buck and Wing Jigs , etc. The Quadrille which originated in 1740 is considered the start of traditional Square dancing. There are different styles and mannerisms in square dancing throughout the world. Originally these dances were primitive dances done in lines ( columns ) and circles, then modified to Squares or Quadrilles (see Quadrilles for more info). Square dancing which is basically a "Sequence dance" wa s one of the popular of activities in colonial times. In the southern Appalachians, America would make its only real contribution to Square dancing called Running Sets. The term Square dance can be applied to many types of American folk dances in which an even number of couples participate, arranged so that they form a square, as in

    Come Dance With Us! The Fort Collinaders Square Dance Club meets the Second and Fourth Saturday Night of each month from September through May. Dances start at 7:30 for pre-rounds and squares at 8:00 and dance until 10:00. We are a Mainstream Club. One tip during the evening is a Plus tip. Unless noted, all dances are held at the Masonic Temple, downstairs, 225 W. Oak St in Ft. Collins, Colorado. It has a wood floor.
    Directions: From North College Ave. (Hwy 287), go west on Mulberry (Hwy 14) to Mason St, turn right (north.) Go to Oak St and turn left (west). (You can't get from College Ave to Oak St, there is a pedestrian Mall between College and Mason.) The Masonic temple will be on the left (south) side of the road. Everyone Is Welcome!
