http://www.tis.tas.gov.au/pages/PoweradeSchoolsProgram.htm
ABOUT THE POWERADE SCHOOLS PROGRAM The Powerade Schools Program is an initiative of the Tasmanian Institute of Sport (TIS) and is supported by Coca Cola-Amatil. The program aims to promote the value of an active and healthy lifestyle by utilising elite level athletes as role models. THE PROGRAM The Program is available to Tasmanian schools and is specifically targeted towards grades five and six. Each participating school may receive a maximum of two visits by an assigned Tasmanian Institute of Sport athlete. There is no cost to the school to be a part of this initiative. The program is not designed to provide coaching sessions, however, students may have the opportunity to participate in activities relating to the athlete's specific sport or other sporting activities in general. Athlete visits may take place at any time throughout the year and will be dependent on the athlete's sporting commitments. However, it is recommended that the initial visit occurs during Term 1 or early in Term 2 and that the follow up visit occurs during Term 3.
STRUCTURE OF THE SCHOOL VISIT
Each school visit is likely to be different, depending on the requirements of individual groups. A typical first school visit may involve the athlete giving a presentation to a class group during a normal class period lasting 40 to 45 minutes. In that time the athlete would introduce the program, themselves and their sport. The format would be very flexible and allow for questions and discussion within the group. Depending on the athlete's sport it may be possible to provide students with a 'hands on experience' of specific equipment used.

High students looking to earn a Michigan Merit Award scholarship may not have to do 40 hours of community service after all. State Attorney General Mike Cox has ruled that the new requirement is void because it does not relate to academic achievement. document.write(''); A state board decided last year to require volunteer work starting with the class of 2006. But Cox says the Legislature limited the board's power to imposing extra requirements only if they increase access to postsecondary education or reward graduates who have succeeded academically. Requiring 40 hours of community service does neither, according to Cox.

McCubbin, Ph.D. The recent announcement by the Kamehameha Schools to focus on reaching younger Native Hawaiian children from birth through Grade 3 and continuing its campus-based career academies spotlight the best pathway to ameliorating past wrongs to the Hawaiian people. • Reflects the vision of Myron "Pinky" Thompson to target children and families from birth to age 8, and sets the stage for the Estate to act in a prudent manner by capitalizing on its earlier multimillion-dollar investments in research, design, implementation and testing of highly successful programs operating in both public schools and on its Kapalama campus. The 2000 Strategic Plan, given depth through community involvement, accentuates the Kamehameha commitment to expand the range of learning careers and opportunities, inclusive of the school's history of vocational education, to better prepare individuals for career/work choices that may or may not involve college.
