Advice for aspiring sports colleges. The Specialist Schools Programme is acornerstone of the Government s drive to raise standards of education.
http://www.talentladder.org/tl_supp_jae_asc.html
Advice for aspiring Sports Colleges The Specialist Schools Programme is a cornerstone of the Government's drive to raise standards of education. It has been a hugely popular and successful programme since its inception in September 1994 and forms a key policy initiative in both the Education Action Zone (EAZ) and Excellence in Cities (EiC) programmes. Specialist schools are required to develop a particular specialist character and ethos and through that character to raise standards in their chosen specialism, and more generally across the school. This should be in partnership with their sponsors, other schools and the community at large. Schools are required to be a resource for other local schools and the community, and to disseminate good practice. Click here to visit the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) standards website for more information on the Specialist Schools Programme. problems? please contact the webmaster@youthsporttrust.org Registered Charity Number 1086915

Wenatchee Valley loses unsung hero
On Sunday, September 11, 2005 Wenatchee Valley College and the NWAACC lost an unsung hero. Bryan Gilbert, was killed in a plane crash on his way back from Alaska flying a float plane. Gilbert was both an athlete and coach within the NWAACC. From 1977-79, he played for basketball for Big Bend CC then was an assistant coach at BBCC from 1982-85. In 2000, Gilbert became a volunteer coach at Wenatchee Valley College, helping head coach Greg Franz with the men's basketball program. In addition to his time with the NWAACC, Gilbert was also a pilot for Continental Airlines and was a partner in Wenatchee Flying Service. Franz remembers Gilbert as “…a man who had an incredible passion for flying and basketball. The only thing that dwarfed those two was the love for his family. I cannot remember spending a minute with him where he wasn't actively engaged in life.” Gilbert leaves behind his wife Malou Gilbert and two children, his daughter Nicky and son Grant.
