Its success in promoting teamwork and inclusion can be seen throughout Special Olympics.

Is this the case? If it isn't, you'll need to reword. A couple of small concerns: 1. It seems more logical to structure your paper by explaining benefits before talking about growth (after all, it's sort of cause and effect, isn't it?). 2. The wording of "The history...has shown..." is a bit odd. Also, is it the history that has proven "that individuals..."? You might want to reword for clarity. Home About Us Sports News ... Jobs History History of Special Olympics Eunice Kennedy Shriver started the concept of Special Olympics in 1963 as a daycamp for people with intellectual disabilities to provide them with the therapeutic effects of physical fitness and sports. In 1968 she organized the first International Special Olympics Games, in which 1,000 athletes from the U.S., Canada and France competed. That year, Special Olympics was founded as a nonprofit organization. The first Annual Western Regional Special Olympics was held on July 26, 1969 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. A total of nine hundred athletes from Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah participated in the softball throw, the 50 and 300-yard dash and 25 and 50-yard swim. With the success of this event, each western state began to formulate plans to organize its own chapter program. And in the following years, the program was expanded to include opportunities for training, a multi-level competition structure and year-round programming. In an historic move on July 1, 1995, California Special Olympics was divided into two separately incorporated Chapters, Special Olympics Southern California. Inc. and Special Olympics Northern California, Inc. This division was a first in the history of the Special Olympics movement. The change afforded each new California Chapter a dramatic opportunity to greatly expand outreach efforts. The new Southern California Chapter is bounded by San Luis Obispo, Kern and Inyo Counties in the north, and the state

Special Olympics I This day camp spawned Special Olympics in the United States and around the world. At the first International Games in 1968 1,000 athletes from 26 states and Canada competed in track and field, swimming, and floor hockey. The growth of Special Olympics since that time has been overwhelming - nearly one million athletes are now training and competing in more than 140 countries and 54 U.S. chapters. These athletes are aided by 500,000 volunteers and 250,000 coaches. The spirit of Special Olympics - skill, courage, sharing, and joy - incorporates universal values that transcend all boundaries of geography, nationality, political philosophy, gender, age, race, or religion. History of Special Olympics Pennsylvania
Special Olympics Pennsylvania became an official chapter of Special Olympics Inc. 1970 after hosting a track and field event for 135 participants. The growth of Special Olympics here in Pennsylvania has mirrored the growth worldwide. In 51 local programs from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh, we have over 27,000 athletes training and competing in over 20 sports.

With a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Central Missouri State, Mike's pragmatism has helped keep our administrative expenses lower than most non-profits of our size and budget. Mike is a former controller for the California Rural Legal Assistance Program and was the accounting manager for The American Heart Association's California Affiliate. He is a dedicated and tireless worker often found at the office well into the late hours of the evening.
