183. Canonical List Of Space Transportation Methods
Attempts to list all known space propulsion methods.
http://www.geocities.com/danielravennest/CanonicalList.html
Canonical List of
Space Transportation and Engineering Methods Version 0.79 July 26, 2001 by Dani Eder DaniEder@aol.com This document is a an attempt list of all known space transport and space engineering methods. It includes only those methods whose underlying physical principles are understood (i.e. no Star Trek warp drives). It is the product of a number of years of collecting and, occasionally, inventing them. I am motivated by a desire to see civilization expand into space and my frustration by the slow pace of progress to date. Most current space vehicles and projects use techniques that existed in the 1950's and 1960's. Some new ideas were developed as early as 1960, but have not been put into used even today. From the 1970's to today many additional ideas have been generated. Most of these have received scant attention. By disseminating information on these ideas, I hope others will realize the vast untapped potential contained in these ideas. This draft (version 0.79) lists all the concepts I am aware of, with at least a basic description of each. As you can tell by the version number, which is less than one, this is still very much a work in progress. Later versions of this document are intended to flesh out each method with improved descriptions and current references. If you know of a method which is not on this list, I would appreciate being informed of it. If you have references or text descriptions on a concept, they would be appreciated also. Some related information on the basics of space transport, the forces and energies used, and space project engineering are included. Editorial comments and material that needs lots of editing appear in square brackets.

In fact, I haven't updated the entries on the original page for well over 2 years, and it seems unlikely that I will be able to resume doing so in the near future. Staff Writer
The increased cost to fund Metro schools over the next three years could be just over $4 per week for many tax- payers. A Tennessean analysis indicates that the yearly property tax on a $150,000 home must increase by $225 to pay for the proposed $570 million, $612.6 million and $651.3 million budgets for schools. By the week, the increase is $4.33 — about the cost of a fancy cup of coffee at Starbucks. That perspective on a tax increase is exactly what Metro needs as it decides whether to pay more money for schools, said Jim Pfeiffer, a parent whose children attend schools in Bellevue. ''The trouble is that the argument has never been unbundled,'' Pfeiffer said. ''It's been bundled into a total budget with all the … things we do as a city. We need to get this down to where it's in bite-sized pieces mentally. It should be presented to (residents) intelligently so they can sit back and say, 'I can make an evaluation. Is it worth five bucks for the schools?' '' Mayor Bill Purcell announced Thursday that a property tax rate increase of about $2.50 per $100 of assessed value would be required to pay for a proposed three-year increase for schools, coupled with the single-year budget requests from city departments such as health, parks and police. All together, those requests total $416.1 million.

Space-Time Physics and the Future of Time Travel
By Alex MacLellan
Human beings have always tried to explain the world around them. They have worked to organize it, to measure it, and to understand it. These efforts at understanding such basic concepts as space and time and light have led to many discoveries. In the last one hundred years many changes have been made to how we understand these concepts. You may not be able to move as quickly and easily through time as the hero of H.G. Well's Time Machine, but scientists have been able to understand how certain variables can affect time - to slow it down and speed it up - leading them to believe that it is possible that time travel may become possible. Before looking at time travel, an understanding of the terms and history are required. Space, time, and light have been studied and the definitions have evolved as research has advanced. Looking at these concepts as they have been explained through history will help us understand what may be possible in the future. Portrait of Euclid Over history many people have come up with many different views about what time is and what space is, and how to understand them. Space was defined be Euclid, a Greek mathematician. He was the creator of geometry in 295 B.C.

194. Possible Geometries For Space
A short article on the possible structures for space in the FriedmannRobertson-Walker model
http://www.jupiterscientific.org/sciinfo/cosmology/frwgeometry.html
General Relativity and the Possible Geometries for Space
The Friedmann-Robertson-Walker model allows for three possible structures for space: If the mass/energy density of the Universe is more than the critical value then space is a three-dimensional sphere; if the density is equal to the critical value then space is flat; if the density is less than the critical value then space is a hyperbolic three-dimensional sphere. The two-dimensional analogs of the above three spaces are respectively of the surface of a ball, the plane and the saddle surface:
Figure 1: Two-Dimensional Sphere
Curvature is positive, W
Figure 2: Two-Dimensional Plane
Curvature is zero, W = 1, and space is flat.
Figure 3: A Saddle Surface or Two-Dimensional Hyperbolic Sphere
Curvature is negative, W
The ratio of the mass/energy density to its critical value is W W determines the geometry of space.
In the case of a sphere, the Universe is closed because it is of finite extension and it turns out that the expansion of the Universe will eventually stop, space will begin to contract instead of stretch and the Universe will finally collapse in a process resembling the opposite of the Big Bang. Hence, for this first structure, the Universe has a finite lifetime. When the Universe is open (the hyperbolic case) or flat, space is of infinite extent and the expansion continues forever.

This service is divided into four sections (Plasma physics, Regions of interest, Phenomena of interest, Space physics instrumentation and analysis methods) and Appendices, each of which contain several pages. Only few of these pages are directly reachable from this title page; rest of the pages become available through surfing the text or by using the contents listing.
Plasma physics
Space physics is interested in the natural plasma environments found close enough to the Earth to be studied by in situ measurements.
Regions of interest
Today, these in situ measurement cover most of the heliosphere. Space physics studies Sun (and its extension, the solar wind) and all planets with plasma environments, including Earth. One of the main tasks in space physics is to explain the Solar wind - magnetosphere - ionosphere - atmosphere coupling that is responsible for many important phenomena.
Phenomena of interest
Many interesting magnetospheric/ionospheric phenomena are created because of the energy input from the Sun and the special properties of the plasma state. For us living at high latitudes, the most remarkable plasma phenomena are the auroras relating to geomagnetic activity.
