Please select the appropriate standard(s) for your lesson, using the following guidelines. K - 4 Geography Choosing an educational standard and associating it with a resource signifies that the content of the resource supports student learning and attainment of the specific ability noted. This can be through many different mechanisms and resource types, including access to background, text-based material. Some standards are general in nature, hence the lesson need not address the entire scope of the standard to be eligible for these data. Additional, more detailed information on the specific concepts included in each standard is available for each grade level grouping, K-4 , and (courtesy SRI International ) to assist in making appropriate choices. Please choose from the lists below. You can copy-paste the appropriate ones into your Word document. If you do not have experience and familiarity with the standards then please refrain from including this information or consult a colleague before entering such data.

Our original lesson plans are developed by Thirteen Ed Online Master Teachers. Starting with tried-and-true lessons that work in the classroom, our Web-savvy teachers have built Web-based activities that use the rich resources of Thirteen/WNET New York and the Internet. Each month, we will create new lessons based upon outstanding PBS series and around outstanding Web resources!
    Dig Into Ireland
In this lesson, students explore the environment and wildlife of Ireland to find out how they were formed, and how they in turn helped to form Irish culture. Students will watch the program, NATURE, and collect data about Ireland's land and culture from various websites. In small groups they will create a large graphical timeline display, an oral presentation and a written report."
How to Make an Artificial Organ
Programs from Thirteen/WNET New York's INNOVATION series portray amazing breakthroughs in medical technology involving the replacement of tissues and organs damaged by injury or degenerative diseases. "The Human Body Shop" shows progress being made in the development of technologically advanced prosthetics. How close are we to the development of replacement organs which are as good as the original, if not even better? In this lesson, students divide into groups and use a project-based learning approach to develop a model for an artificial replacement organ or limb that may possibly be developed in the not-too-distant future. In the course of designing and creating this model, students use math, science, technology, and mechanics skills.

Without the use of their legs, how does the rider balance on top of the horse?
Biomedical - Biomechanics Of Joints - 7 Pages In this activity, you will build a model of a human arm and shoulder. The model will demonstrate that these body parts act like different types of mechanical joints and that muscles "pull" but do not "push". You will also examine the range of motion of your knee, elbow and wrist.
Biomedical and Mechanical - Design A Running Shoe For A Triathlete - 9 Pages You and your classmates are sports engineers assigned to develop a new triathlete shoe. Current concerns with existing equipment include a) speed of foot entry into the shoe b) ease of lacing the shoe. There is also a question regarding durability. Does a running shoe for a triathlete need to be durable? You and your team will consider several elements of engineering design to develop concepts for a new shoe.
Chemical - Chromatography - 6 Pages Chromatography is used by crime laboratories to identify clues such as blood, ink, or other substances found at a crime scene. Chromatograms of these clues are compared against chromatograms of known substances for identification. In this experiment you get to be the detective! Can you identify the 12 color colored markers?
