Virtually every NASA field center has a visitor center and tours available. A few of the best are:
          Space Center Houston
Space Center Houston is the official visitor center for the Johnson Space Center, where astronauts are trained and where space shuttle missions are controlled. Space Center Houston contains numerous exhibits, including a gallery of space suits dating back to the dawn of space travel, a collection of artifacts from the history of manned space flight from Mercury through the Apollo program, and a series of kiosks that contains simulations of space flights, everything from landing a space shuttle to planning and conducting a manned mission to Mars. Space Center Houston is also the venue of special exhibits, most geared toward children. Tours of the Johnson Space Center are available with stops at such places as Mission Control, and the rocket park (where a Saturn V is located). Summer day camps for children are also available.
          Kennedy Space Center Vistors Center
The Visitors Center at the Kennedy Space Center is a sprawling place, on the edge of the vast launch complex where people have been launched into space for over forty years, several to the Moon. It includes two IMAX theaters, an education center for young people, a rocket garden, interactive simulators, live shows, and the Astronauts Memorial, commemorating those who died for the exploration of space. The Visitors Center is also the jumping off point for bus tours of the Kennedy Space Center. These generally end at the totally enclosed Apollo/Saturn V Center with artifacts and multimedia displays depicting the first expeditions to the Moon

Apollo Mission Control Center Name: Apollo Mission Control Center (Mission Control Center) Location: Lyndon B. Johnson Space Flight Center, Houston, Texas Owner: National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Condition: Excellent, altered, original site Builder/Architect: NASA Dates: 1965-Present DESCRIPTION The Apollo Mission Control Center is in Building 30 at the Lyndon B. Johnson Manned Space Flight Center in Houston, Texas. The three-story structure consists of a mission operations wing (MOW), operations support wing (OSW), and an interconnecting lobby wing. The MOW contains systems and equipment required to support the mission control function. The OSW contains offices, laboratory, and technical support areas for the flight operations directorate. The lobby wing provides additional office space and dormitory facilities utilized by flight controllers during space flights of extended duration. The mission control center is supported by an emergency power building that houses standby electrical power and air-conditioning systems in the event that primary sources fail. Principal systems on the first floor are the real time computer complex and the communications systems. These systems support the dual mission facilities and systems on the second and third floors. The communications system provides the interface between the mission control center in Houston and the manned space flight network and the launch site.

NASA privatizes management of space flight centers
By Frank Tiboni
NASA plans to transform itself into a commercial-like operation. To that end, the agency will spend $3.44 billion to hand over management of its flight center operations to a corporate team. The space agency late last month awarded a team led by Lockheed Martin Corp. the 10-year Consolidated Space Operations Contract to manage space operations. A NASA official called CSOC the largest privatization effort ever undertaken by a government agency. CSOC will shift management responsibility for five space flight centers to the Lockheed Martin team. NASA estimates the contract will save the agency $1.4 billion over its 10-year life, NASA Administrator Daniel S. Goldin said. Under CSOC, NASA will adopt commercial practices, products, services and technology, he said. NASA officials said they want to reduce duplicative work and increase efficiency by streamlining service delivery processes. The contract, which began Oct. 1, has a base five-year period worth $1.9 billion. NASA can extend the contract for a second five-year period.
